Celebrating 20 Years at Open Eye Cafe

We are honored to present the Open Eye Cafe 20th Anniversary Coffee, created in support & celebration of the incredible milestone of 20 years of community building, outreach & coffee quality that Open Eye Cafe has exemplified over the decades.

This coffee will be available on PourOver by the cup for enjoyment SOON - keep an eye out on their social media for an official release announcement!

"For our 20th Anniversary we are featuring a limited edition twist on a familiar and beloved coffee. This is a natural processed version of the La Perla from Finca San Jose, and our friend Arnold Paz in Santa Barbara, Honduras. Captured in this coffee are amazing flavors of cassis, plum, and fresh fig jam. It has a wonderful molasses syrupy body with baking spice notes and a lively acidity right to the end. We cannot think of a better way to celebrate 20 years of serving our community than partnering with an amazing producer and friend such as Arnold and his family. Connecting communities and sharing them with you - coffee truly does unite the world!"
-Scott Conary, Coffee Buyer

Upcoming Events

10/16 - TerraVita East Meets West Dinner
6pm - 8:30 pm. | Fearrington Village Barn

We will be offering pre & post Dinner service coffees at the 10th year of this amazing event created by Colleen Minton:

We are going to offer a fruit forward coffee from our Producer Partner Edith Meza, from Finca Tasta, in Satipo, Peru. This will be offered as a Nitro Cold Brew, which can be enjoyed before dinner, as well as pairing nicely with the sweet fruits of the featured Basque cake, either in Nitro form or Brewed hot in a Chemex. This coffee gives us a wonderful floral fragrance, complex fruits & berries & sweet spice in a creamy body.

For the more delicate featured dessert of frozen whey and pear, we have the Finca El Jazmin from producer Nancy Hernandez in Marcala, Honduras. This specific Catuai varietal has a delicate but poignant starfruit acidity & silky body that will work nicely with the stonefruit & white chocolate in this dessert.

Both of these woman are pioneers in their industry, and amazing representatives both in action, and through their coffee.

Featured Coffee:
Cup Of Excellence Burundi #9

The Burundi Nkaka CWS #9. Tasting notes of vanilla, cherry, tropical fruits, lavender, black tea and cola, this coffee is truly unique. ☕️
You can find the Burundi on PourOver at Caffe Driade and Open Eye Cafe

The Cup of Excellence program is the only other program in our industry that comes close to our Farmer Direct Relationship program in terms of development and sustainability.

Nkaka was built out of necessity due to other stations being too great a distance for the farmers to travel and so, in 1978, this station came to be constructed. The name is derived from the Kirundi word “gushikana” which described an offering to the king .  The stories surrounding the locals also hold some interesting and quite unique history. When season end comes and it’s time for the "offering", the farmers and community will gather in celebration by all heading into the river and drinking the home brewed beer known to the people as “urwawa”
