May News

It's been a busy couple of weeks here at Carrboro Coffee! Here are some of the projects we've been working on: 

We're excited to announce that Scott at CCR recently completed the CQI Coffee Processing Generalist Certification taught by the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI)!

We've been working closely with CQI for various industry quality programs around the world, and take every opportunity to continue to learn and evolve our knowledge base to better help our farmer partners and the industry at large, with the goal of improving quality through the entire supply chain. In our continued efforts to support our community, and in partnership with Townsend Bertram's 30th Anniversary Celebration, we sponsored the Meadow Lark event. Meadow Lark is Learning Outside’s annual scholarship fundraising event, where the mission is to provide children with quality outdoor experiences that enhance their lives and learning, instill a love of the natural world and promote lifelong stewardship. Our contributions added to afternoon of delightful food and beverages that over 4100 people enjoyed and the event raised nearly $12,000! You can learn more about our recent collaboration with Townsend Bertram and Learning outside, below. 

And, finally, our cafes are thrilled to be nominated for Indy Week's Best of the Triangle! Both Open Eye Cafe and Caffe Driade have been nominated for Best Coffee Shop in Orange/Chatham County, and we'd really appreciate your votes. Carrboro Coffee Collaborates

We're excited to announce a special collaboration with Townsend Bertram & Co. to celebrate their 30th Anniversary! This special blend will be sampled in the store every day from 10am-12pm, TBC will be hosting a series of coffee-making camping demos featuring the blend, and bags will be available for sale to benefit the Scott Bertram Scholarship for Learning Outside. Milk Steaming & Latte Art • Saturday, May 19, 11 AM

Your local barista may make pouring a beautiful rosetta seem magically effortless, but what does it really take? Join us to learn the science & art behind steaming & pouring sweet, glossy, micro- foamed milk. We’ll demonstrate the difference between various milks & temperatures, study a bit of milk chemistry, then try our hand at steaming, pouring & latte art.

Carrboro Day

On May 6th, join neighbors and friends and celebrate the unique qualities that make our town special. Plenty of family activities including story sharing live music, food vendors, poetry, crafts and interactive family games. We can't wait to celebrate! Stop in for a drink to relax and fuel the day. Dynamic Duos - Eat & Drink

Join us at the Museum of Life & Science on May 31st to experience food and beverage pairings from your favorite restaurants, breweries, wineries, and more across the Triangle. Learn why certain things make good pairs, and try some you haven’t thought of before. Leave the event with some new food science facts to impress your friends with, and a belly full of funky flavors. Featured Coffee: Finca San Idsidro - El Salvador

CCR President Scott Conary discovered this coffee during the Cup of Excellence and found it to be a truly enjoyable cup, so he followed up with producer Bessie Grace on the online National Award auction, so that we can share it with you now! This is a remarkable coffee from high up in the Apaneca region. It has a wonderful black cherry and lite citrus flavor that finishes with a honey sweet & silky body.

This years harvest looks to be as amazing as the last, and we are excited to continue to develop this relationship for the 2nd year and beyond!
