We can't believe summer is already here! As our coffee family grows and we look to the future, we find we are running out of space! Welcome to the lineup our new coffee roasting machine! With this stylish machine, we will be able to double our capacity and fine tune our roasts, to further emphasize the deliciousness of each coffee. We look forward to working in our expanded roasting space.

Carrboro Coffee Collaborates

In our continued efforts to support our community we sponsored the Meadow Lark event. Meadow Lark is Learning Outside’s annual scholarship fundraising event.  Their mission is to provide children with quality outdoor experiences that enhance their lives and learning, instill a love of the natural world and promote lifelong stewardship.  Key to their mission is serving individuals who do not have ready access to quality outdoor learning experiences.

Our contributions added to afternoon of delightful food and beverages that over 4,100 people enjoyed and the event raised nearly $12,000! 
There are going  to  be many happy children attending Learning Outside’s life-changing programs now!  Thanks to all who helped make a difference in the lives of the children in our community and for your continued support of this organization.

In addition we also partnered with Townsend & Bertram Co. to celebrate their 30th Anniversary by working with the team to create a special coffee blend for them to sell at the store. We are donating proceeds from the sales of this special event coffee to the Scott B Scholarship, this scholarship supports families and children in need so they have the ability to attend the Learning Outside camps!

Join us to learn the science & art behind steaming & pouring sweet, glossy, micro- foamed milk. We’ll demonstrate the difference between various milks & temperatures, study a bit of milk chemistry, then try our hand at steaming, pouring & latte art.

Where does the coffee come from and who cultivates it? Travel the globe with us as we explore coffees from the Americas to Africa to the Pacific Rim. We’ll taste and discuss how climate, culture, and the marketplace affect what ends up in your mug. Take home a sample from each major region and refine your taste preference with fresh knowledge of each exciting origin.

Upcoming Events

We are hosting this months Triangle Area Latte Art Competition in our newly expanded roasting facility! This event is free to attend, and open to the public, & will be held in Chapel Hill, June 27th from 6:30 to 9:30pm
Anyone is welcome to try their hand at pouring latte art in this round-robin format throwdown; all it takes is $5 to enter and you get the chance to test your skill, & possibly walk away with cash & prizes! This will also serve as a 'soft-opening' of our expanded roasting facility and just a fun time to relax with food trucks, live music and more!

6/13 - Museum of Life & Science, Durham - 6:30pm 
We will be continuing the theme of Adult Summer Camp by connecting the science of roasting marshmallows, which utilizes similar principles to what we utilize when roasting coffee, such as the the Maillard Reaction - or sugar browning!  We will have a demo, as well as delicious Cold brew & NITRObrew coffee available from our Farmer Direct Relationship program!

In an effort to continue our advancements in skill & knowledge and applying that knowledge to create & maintain quality coffee, Owner Scott Conary has certified in the Level 1 coffee processing course taught by the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI).  This is a refined 2 day course that is a condensed version of the type of hands on knowledge Scott has been accumulating these past decades, that allows a greater understanding of what is happening at the farm level, and how we might support our farmer partners.

This years harvest looks to be as amazing as the last, and we are excited to continue to develop this 10 year+ relationship!

This year we asked Nancy if she would separate the varietals to see the impact each brings to the blend. Turns out we fell in love with the unique acidity and flavors of the Catuai varietal by itself....so now you can try this too and compare to the taste you experience from the blend!

Over ten years ago we hosted Nancy at the Roastery to train as a barista and roaster so she could open her own shop in Marcala. Now we are able to share the harvest from her small, carefully cultivated farm! Finca Jazmin is a four acre farm that rewards us with a coffee that is wonderfully balanced with delicate floral & fruit aromas and flavors, and a honey sweetness.
