Dear subscribers to the DRC Newsletter! We had a very interesting Annual Meeting with many different outcomes. In this edition we want to focus on DRC related news and especially draw your attention to the new Fund for Incentives (see 2.).

1. DRC Annual Meeting Maribor 4.-7. November 2015 "Harmonization of the Danube Higher Education Area" 
 

DRC annual meeting and DRC 2015 General Assembly was held at the University of Maribor on November 4-6. 

A detailed report of the conference programme will be online on our website soon.

We would like to say thank you very much to the organizers from the University of Maribor and we are looking forward to our next Annual Meeting at the Danube University Krems in November 2016!

2. New website layout and former presidents section

In April we have implemented the new format for our newsletter. Now also our website received a new, cleaner layout. Furthermore, a sub-page with former presidents has been included to illustrate the rich history of our organisation even better.

3. DRC Fund for incentives

The DRC general assembly decided to establish DRC Fund for Incentives. 

This fund will be funded from the budget of DRC into which each full member of DRC contributes 500 € per year as DRC membership fee. 

The purpose of the fund is to support the cooperation of DRC members which contributes to achieving the goals of EU Strategy for the Danube region in the priority areas where the universities have a strong position and their participation is exclusively needed.

DEADLINE FOR THE APPLICATIONS for 2016 is January 15, 2016.

4. Danubius Award and Danubius Young Scientist Award

The Danubius Award was created in 2011 by the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (IDM) and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) with the intention to honor persons with extraordinary achievements in their scientific activity and output in relation to the Danube Region. 2015 this award has been, for the second time, complemented with a specific price for young scientists - the „Danubius Young Scientist Award“.

They were awarded in the context of a high level scientific event by the European Commission´s Joint Research Centre (JRC) supporting the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). The award ceremony was one of the most important events of the 4th EUSDR – JRC Conference in Ulm.

We are especially happy that this year’s Danubius Award was given to former DRC president and DRC honorary president em. Univ.-Prof. DI Dr. DDr. h.c. Leopold März.

5. New DRC members

We would like to welcome our new members to the DRC network:
  1. Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania 
  2. University of East Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
  3. Uzhhorod National University, Ukraine
  4. Spiru Haret University, Bucharest, Romania 
  5. National School of Political Science and Public Administration SNSPA Bucharest, Romania

6. DRC Permanent Committee

The DRC needs new appointments for the Permanent Committe:

The Permanent Committee is composed of a minimum of one representative per country. It consists of the President, two Vice-Presidents, all former Honorary Presidents and one representative from each country nominated by the General Assembly as well as appointed by all DRC members of the concerned country. The Permanent Committee meets in ordinary session at least once a year.

It has the following competences

  • supervise the implementation of the decisions taken by the General Assembly,
  • submit recommendations and proposals to the Presidency,
    appoint, or dismiss the Treasurer of the DRC upon proposal of the elected President,
  • approve the programme of activities of the DRC upon proposal of the Presidency and supervise its execution,
  • prepares the annual budget
  • prepares the annual financial statements
  • make proposals to the General Assembly on the admission and exclusion of members.

The Committee may assume the following responsibilities regarding general policy or which relate to particular projects:

  • upon request by the Presidency consider any action that may contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the DRC,
  • appoint working groups to undertake / advise on specific activities,
  • maintain effective relations with the national conferences and with the international organizations, both governmental and nongovernmental, which have a special interest in university affairs,
  • develop recommendations on university policy.

7. PRESENTATION OF DRC MEMBER UNIVERSITIES - Andrássy University Budapest, Hungary

As stated in the DRC Action Plan 2015, we want to prepare a DRC members book. A template for this information to be provided can be found in the intranet
