Wherever the Holy Spirit is, Jazz is.

That is why people can get offended.
They don't want God to get too close.
They are anxious about defrosting
and leaving puddles on the floor.
They worry the Spirit of God may blow wild and free..

Today, syncopation and improvisation
become the moment for the Spirit to dance
as the soul of Christ breathes fresh life.
That is a good reason to welcome Jazz into this or any church.

Where Jazz is, the Holy Spirit is.

This is the Spirit of God who loves the world, the whole world,
the world that yearns to be whole.
God goes into the world through Jesus to replace fear with awe,
violence with reconciliation, love-for-self-alone with love for all.
God's love is just that expansive and life-giving.
God is always inviting us to sing a new song!

Support PDA's Response to Earthquake in Turkey and Syria

The scale of the disaster facing Syria and Turkey after the Feb. 6 earthquake is becoming clearer. The 7.8-magnitude quake and its aftershocks have left more than 33,000 people dead and thousands more injured; the numbers will continue to rise.  Buildings have been reduced to rubble, and roads and bridges have been severely damaged, resulting in dangerous conditions for first responders. In some places, such as Aleppo, this destruction is compounding the damage of the now 11-year war in Syria.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is providing emergency relief and short-term recovery in the impacted areas through long-standing partners in Syria, in addition to ACT Alliance members in Syria and Turkey, all of whom are already on the ground. PDA will remain active throughout the entire recovery process, accompanying our partners in the area as they determine long-term program needs and providing financial support for building and resilience.

There are many good organizations providing help and relief, including Doctors Without Borders and International Rescue Committee.  If you would like to donate to the Presbyterian Disaster Relief efforts, you may write a check to the church - First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael - with note "earthquake relief."  You may also give online through our church website.  Click here to donate.   PDA Earthquake Relief - Syria and Turkey
