Lighting the Advent Candles Susan Isler
Opening Song Watchman, Tell us of the Night
Reading How the Light Comes Aaron McKee, liturgist
I cannot tell you
how the light comes.
What I know
is that it is more ancient
than imagining.
That it travels
across an astounding expanse
to reach us.
That it loves
searching out
what is hidden,
what is lost,
what is forgotten
or in peril
or in pain.
That it has a fondness
for the body,
for finding its way
toward flesh,
for tracing the edges
of form,
for shining forth
through the eye,
the hand,
the heart.
I cannot tell you
how the light comes,
but that it does.
That it will.
That it works its way
into the deepest dark
that enfolds you,
though it may seem
long ages in coming
or arrive in a shape
you did not foresee.
And so in this season of Advent
may we turn ourselves toward it.
May we lift our faces
to let it find us.
May we bend our bodies
to follow the arc it makes.
May we open
and open more
and open still
to the blessed light
that comes.

Thanking and Celebrating Sandra Fisk

Sandra Fisk has been leading many ministries, projects and artistic endeavors in our congregation for decades. In gratitude for the many ways the Spirit has flowed through her many gifts and skills to enrich our church, we want to thank her. At the end of the service, we will thank Sandra and show a few slides of church seasonal displays in the sanctuary, church history records, photos of people, church life events and more. Sandra has served as an elder on the session, as our unofficial church historian, coordinator of the Liturgical Arts Group, member of the Chancel & Handbell Choirs, and planning team leader for the September 2019 150th Anniversary Celebration of our church among other ministries and events. We continue to pray for Sandra – for peace, for strength, for God’s comfort – and for her beloved husband Fred.
Sandra has asked that people not crowd close to her since she needs to protect her health.
