ASI News - April 2015

Welcome to the monthly newsletter for the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). ASI is an international whole of supply chain initiative, launched in 2012 to foster greater sustainability and transparency in the aluminium value chain.

In 2015, ASI is focusing on two key work areas - formalising its governance and developing the assurance model for a certification program.

Following on from the successful launch of the ASI Performance Standard (Part 1) in December 2014, IUCN are working with the ASI multi-stakeholder Standards Setting Group on the development of indicators. Meetings are planned in July to discuss the current draft, as well as broader options for assurance and implementation. ASI will be following the ISEAL Assurance Code in designing its assurance and certification model.

Also this year, ASI will graduate from being a successful collaborative project co-ordinated by IUCN, to an incorporated non-profit entity with formal membership. Governance will continue to be multi-stakeholder, and draw on models used by other standards organisations. ASI will be following good practice guidance for the design of its governance model. New company and association members are welcome - please visit the Join ASI page on the ASI website.

We welcome stakeholder interest in ASI's activities, so please contact us at info@aluminium-stewardship.org.  If this newsletter has been forwarded to you, you can sign up to join the ASI mailing list here.
