Myrtleford Ski Club August Issue

Season in full swing
Heaps of Snow

With the early season snowfalls now being topped up regularly the season is now in full swing and the snow depth hit the magic 200 cm mark a few days ago.  All lifts and runs have now been open for a few weeks and whilst weekends are heavily booked there are still some midweek openings available.

Supervision of children
With the heavy snow and the ever present dangers of snow shedding, members are reminded that, when staying at the lodge, children 16 years and under must be under parental supervision.
Members are asked to also make their guests aware of this requirement.

It is particularly important to monitor children when playing outside to make sure they are not in any area where snow could fall or be shed from a roof, tree any other overhang.
2018 Race Results
The club race was once again held on the extended Nastar course with great weather and very good snow conditions.  Thiis year the Ski School set a different course that took competitors down onto the Towers Main St run.  This was welcomed by all who competed.  We also moved the weekend in an attempt to get two runs and this may have affected overall numbers a little, however it was really positive to have several first timers competing along with some of the club stalwarts.

After a great race the traditional evening meal got under way.  This year's Medieval theme was well received and we saw some great costumes.  There was also lots of chatter and laughter throughout the night.

Upcoming General Meetings

We have two important meetings coming up before the end of this year.

One of these is our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and this has been scheduled for Friday 26th October.

The second of these will be a Special General Meeting (date still to be decided) to enable the Committee to present the new constitution, open up discussion and then have members vote on this important document.  At the time of writing the club's solicitor had not completed checking of the final draft.  Once we receive this, all members will be sent a copy.

Full details of dates, venues and agenda for both meetings will be included in the next newsletter.
What's new?
Club, Lodge and Lease
Lease update

The Club lease was up for renewal at the end of last year, however there were some things that Falls Creek Resort Management requested clarification of, so we have moved to a year by year lease.  This will actually give the Committee more time to get the upgrade of lodge facilities spot on.

The broad plan is as follows:
  • Roadside entry with club signage
  • Covered walkway from road to lodge
  • Increase kitchen space
  • Increase dining room space
  • Increase living room space
  • Increase bed spaces
The committee has received some concept drawings, however these have been sent back to the architect for incorporation of some modifications.  We hope to have these back soon and in the lodge for all members to see and have input to.  Members will be kept fully informed of progress as we proceed with this project over the next season or so.

New Managers -- the process so far

As announced in the last newsletter this will be Graeme & Barb's final year with the club after 13 seasons of excellent management of our lodge.

With regards to our new managers an advertisement was run in several newspapers and we received quite a deal of interest and a number of applications. The shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in August and the Committee and an appointment will follow soon after.
General Information
Day visits and evening use of lodge
As you all know the lodge is open for use by all club members whether you are staying overnight or just visiting for the day.  We do ask day visitors that, whenever possible, you let the Managers know of your intentions for the day.

If you are staying in the lodge and wish to invite some visitors for a meal PLEASE respect other members and guests staying in the lodge who have the right to use the kitchen, dining room and lounge.  We also ask that you discuss your invitation to visitors with the Managers.

We go to the mountain and ski not to escape life, but so life does not escape us
