Fund Launches Statewide

THANK YOU for making the Michigan Good Food Fund launch a success!

The fund launched this summer with community events for good food entrepreneurs in Lansing, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Traverse City, and Muskegon. We have started a buzz and are building a pipeline of inquiries! There was also great local media coverage including a recent spotlight in Model D

Fund Updates

NEW INVESTORS ON BOARD
The Kresge Foundation and Northern Trust have joined the fund as investors! Today the fund has $30 million available to finance loans to good food enterprises across Michigan. Grants and business assistance are also available to support innovative projects or nontraditional high impact operators. BUSINESS ASSISTANCE: FOOD HUBS WEBINAR
What is the state of food hubs? Check out a recent webinar that shares results from an in-depth look at food hubs nationwide. Presented by fund partner MSU Center for Regional Food Systems in cooperation with the National Good Food Network Food Hub Collaboration. Watch
 
BUSINESS ASSISTANCE: FOOD ACCESS REPORT & WEBINAR
How can we improve healthy food access in rural areas of Northeast (lower) Michigan? Dig into new report and watch webinar by MSU Center for Regional Food Systems and the Gretchen Swanson Center, including recommendations to improve access for low-income residents in this region.
FIELD RESOURCE: HEALTHY FOOD FINANCING
Check out fund partner Capital Impact Partners' policy brief to learn about the history of the federal Healthy Food Financing Initiative - how it got started, work to date, and financing in action profiles including the $5.5 million New Markets Tax Credit deal supporting the newly expanded Imperial Fresh Market (formerly Banner Supermarket) in Detroit, which is celebrating its grand opening at 11:30am on Dec. 16.
