From the Administrative Intern

Hello SHPA Families,
We hope you enjoyed Fall Conferences and continue to enjoy the break that followed them! Building a strong connection between home and school is integral to a successful school community. We all enjoy this time to get to know our students and their families a little bit better!

During this MEA break, our teachers and staff took the time to engage in some professional development opportunities designed to enrich and encourage our own pursuit of life-long learning. Our new staff attended the MN Classical Education Conference while our returning staff engaged in discussions around SHPA’s mission in vision with regards to equity and meeting the needs of each of our students. Our goal is to continue our own pursuit of knowledge and enrich our learning communities with new ideas, perspectives, and opportunities for growth.

On another note, can you believe that October is wrapping up and we are heading into our third month of school? Be sure to bring any updated immunization forms to our Health Assistant, Jen Erickson. We are also entering those chilly Minnesota months. As more clothing and gear will soon be brought to school with the cooler weather heading our way, be sure to check the lost and found for any items that may already be missing. We have quite the collection of sweaters, lunchboxes, and water bottles! Any items not collected by November 11th will be donated, so be sure to check it out soon.

Lastly, Seven Hills is engaging in many exciting upcoming events. Our K-8 students have recently wrapped up a granola bar drive for FOCUS Minnesota. Our middle school students will meet with prospective schools during their upcoming high school fair on November 9th, and then will be grooving 70’s style during their Fall Dance on November 11th. Also, our Bloomington Campus is being recognized at the National Blue Ribbon Ceremony in D.C. November 3-4. Stay tuned for more news on upcoming events at SHPA!
Have a wonderful weekend!

SHPA Town Hall Meeting: Thank you to those of you that attended the Town Hall meeting on Tuesday evening. Mr. Peterson, Principal at our Bloomington Campus, shared an overview of the 2021-22 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment results and Mr. Lamprecht, Teacher Board Member, provided an update on the Bloomington Campus property search. We also summarized the feedback from the parent surveys to determine what are top priorities for our families in this search. Our next step is to survey our teachers and staff.

2021-22 MCA Summary Results

Bloomington Property Search
As we continue to work with Wildamere in our search for our own new Bloomington Campus, the goal of the School Board and the administrative team is to consider the following as top priorities:
Conducive Learning Classrooms, Space to build a Playground, Gym Facilities, Green Space,  and Room for Transportation and Parking

Our goal is to finalize our property search by the spring of 2023 and start renovations to the new site during the 2023-24 school year. We would then have teachers and staff move in with the plan to open for all students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth grade for the 2024-25 school year.

For future Town Halls, we will plan to have an online option as well as in person.

New Website 2023: SHPA will be designing a new website! We are looking for input from our community to better serve our students, parents/guardians, and staff. Please take this short New Website Survey to help inform us of your thoughts and needs as we continue this process.

Child Tax  Credit Deadline: Millions of eligible families may easily claim the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) until Nov. 15, 2022. Eligible families can claim the CTC at

Many families may not know that they are eligible for the CTC or that they can still claim it using a simplified filing tool. Families can also use the simplified tool to file their tax return if they have not yet received the third stimulus check. The simplified tool is for families who do not have a 2021 filing requirement – typically this means their income is below $12,550 if filing single, or $25,100 if filing married. The traditional filing method is still available until 2025. The November 15 deadline is for those interested in using the electronic portal.

One Chip Challenge: We are aware that social media trends are prevalent and may seem exciting for students to engage in. Some of you may have seen the "One Chip Challenge'' on social media. For safety reasons, we cannot allow this challenge or these chips at either Seven Hills' campus. In the past, we have had students get sick doing this challenge. Students will receive consequences for participating or bringing these chips to school. Thank you for your help and support in this matter.

2023-2024 Open Enrollment for New SHPA Students Opens November 1, 2022:

Volunteer Opportunity:
We are looking for a parent or guardian volunteer to assist in our Elementary lunchroom every day, 11am-12pm. Duties would include working with the lead lunch supervisor, helping students with opening their milk or food items, and helping with clean up. If you are interested, please email Principal Farrell at

SHPA Middle School Band and Choir:
Our SHPA Middle School band and choir program began October 1st, but there are still openings! In band and choir, we will develop our instrumental and musicianship skills and develop the voice, we will learn fundamental techniques, collaborate with others, and most importantly make music! For questions contact Mr. Schultz at

Important Update to Dismissal Procedures:
If your child walks and/or rides a bike to and from school each day, please email our Office Receptionist Ms. Moreno at We will make an official list of students walking and riding their bikes as their primary mode of transportation to and from school. We will also provide crossing guards for you to safely cross the intersection at Girard Ave and 76th Street. **If you are not a walker or a biker, parents and family members are not allowed to park at Bethel's Rock or US Bank and walk up to the school to pick up your child. All families must follow the arrival and dismissal process in order to maintain safety for our students who are walking out to busses and family vehicles. We appreciate your attention and cooperation to a successful process.

COVID-19 Update: RC COVID-19 Update:

SHPA Scholastic Book Fair -- Thank you! A big thanks to the SHPA community for supporting our SHPA Scholastic Book Fair this week. Whether you helped plan the fair, volunteered at the fair, visited the fair, or sent money along with your child or teacher to purchase books and fun at the fair -- you all played a critical role to the fair success. Thank you! Between both campuses we raised more than $10,000 for our schools. These funds will be used to fund book supplies for our campus libraries and teacher classrooms throughout the year. Awesome!

Spirit Gear Winter Sale -- Nov. 1 through Nov. 15: SHPA uses two websites to sell spirit gear -- everything from our famous tie-dye t-shirts to tumblers and other Spirit Wear Friday shirts. Both websites can be found on our
PTA website here. The Educational Outfitters website carries items that can be ordered and shipped to your home at any time, and the NP West website carries items that are only on sale for specific times of the year. On November 1, we'll begin a Winter Sale of items listed specifically on the NP West site. You can order and pay for items on the site from Nov. 1 through Nov. 15, and your order will be brought to SHPA on December 15 for pick up. Details about how to pick up your item will be shared closer to the December 15 date.

Give to the Max Fall Fundraiser: Seven Hills will once again participate in the Give to the Max online fundraiser this fall. Watch for details next week!

November PTA Meeting -- Nov. 14: All are welcome to join us at our November PTA meeting, whether or not you've formalized your PTA membership. We'll meet outside of school grounds this time, at Cowboy Jack's Castle Room in Bloomington. Food and drink purchases are optional, and the meeting runs from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.. Our agenda will be posted one week prior to the meeting. All SHPA families are welcome!

November Family Dinner Night; Save the date! Find your favorite SHPA family and dine together at Davanni's in Bloomington on November 22. Details will be shared closer to the date!
