Chamber BBQ Winners

BBQ Winners.Congratulations to Out of Bounds BBQ for winning the Rose Hill Fall Festival's Backyard BBQ contest! Their tender pork and delicious sauce made them the hands-down favorite. The next Fall Festival is roughly 320 days away so grab your grill or smoker and start experimenting with those recipes. Maybe you can take the crown in 2016.

Chamber Mixers

Chamber Mixers are a fun way network, meet other Chamber members in the community, and build relationships. Below is a list of general guidelines for hosting a mixer at your company.

General:

  • Start Mixers in January
  • Mixers held once a month on Thursdays
  • Contact Christina Zenner with time, date, and place Starting time between 5-7 p.m. End time depends on the host (30 minutes to an hour)
Host is Responsible for:
  • Food (appetizers or light snack) and beverage (alcohol optional)
  • Host can provide entertainment, tour of building, presentation, etc.
Raffle:
  • During each mixer, a raffle of $5 per person will be held. Three out of the five dollars will go toward the winner and two dollars will go back to the chamber to fund the Annual Chamber Dinner, as well as website maintenance, and other items. Winner of the drawing must be a chamber member.

Rose Hill Hometown Christmas - Saturday, December 12

BBQ Winners. The annual Rose Hill HO HO HOmetown Christmas Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 12. Bring the wee ones out to take pictures with Santa, build a gingerbread house, make a friend at the North Pole Petting Zoo, and hear a story read by Santa's Elves. Grown-ups can stroll through the Vendors Marketplace and Craft Show for unique and handmade gift items or bid during the silent auction at the RHRC gym. The whole family will enjoy lunch specials at Louie's, a holiday trolley, and old fashioned horse and carriage rides. That night, take in the magic of the Parade of Lights and attend the Rose Hill High School Christmas play. Chamber Survey

Recently, City Manager, Austin Gilley created a communications survey for Rose Hill residents. The goal of the survey is to find out how the city can improve the way they deliver important information to residents, as well as the best way to interact with them. Questions include, "What is your preferred method of communication with the city," "How often would you like to hear from the city," etc.

The brief nine-question document is available on the city of Rose Hill website. Remember, your responses are anonymous, but if you'd like to be contacted, you will have the opportunity to leave information so administrators can get in touch with you. When you have a moment, please visit the site and let your voice be heard.

Rose Hill Soccer Team Takes State - 2nd Straight Year

Congratulations to the Rose Hill Rockets Soccer team for winning the 2015 State championship. Following an early morning "Doughnut Sendoff," the team competed against the DeSoto Wildcats. Going in to the half, the game was tied 1-1, but during the last four minutes of the game, senior, Chase Beckham, scored the lead point. This is the second straight year the Rose Hill Rockets have secured the championship title.

Masonic Lodge Gives Awards - Exemplary Teacher, Student

Rose Hill High School instructor, Ryan Hill, and senior student, Ali Justice, were recognized Thursday, November. 5 by the Douglass Masonic Lodge No.151 with awards for exemplary leadership and academics. The Kansas Masonic Foundation, in cooperation with the Grand Lodge of Kansas, launched a new lodge-based program of exemplary teacher and student awards.

Historical Society Raffles Royals Quilt

During a recent meeting of the Rose Hill Historic Society it was brought to light that there was a serious problem with the air conditioner and furnace systems. The fluctuations in temperature were causing deterioration in some of the books and artifacts. The damage was able to be repaired but it put up a red flag on the situation. The project had been discussed over the last few months and president Keith Cox had secured bids on the system between $5,000 to $7,000 for replacement. The issue of how to finance the purchase was the sticking point.

KAY Club Donates $116 to Vet's Statue

The KAY Club members of Rose Hill High School have been busy with several service projects during the last two weeks. Among them was a fundraising event during the week of November 2 through 6. Fruit smoothies were sold during lunch to raise money for the Veteran’s Memorial that will be placed at Rose Hill City Hall. The club raised $116.00 which was presented to Rose Hill City Administrator, Austin Gilley, on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
