Worlds Biggest Playgroup

The Children’s Book Council of Australia ACT Branch will be participating in the Worlds Biggest Playgroup with an information stall and reading corner.

The Worlds Biggest Playgroup is an ACT Playgroup event for parents, carers and children under 6. It offers parents and carers the opportunity to gather important information and parenting resources. For children it offers free exciting, fun entertainment and activities. Previous days have had up to 1500 parent, carers and children attend the day. CBCA ACT Branch generally speak to around 100 families at this event.

Our show bag sponsors are; Libraries ACT and Harry Hartog Bookseller Woden.

Volunteers are needed for our information stall. Volunteer helpers are needed on Wednesday 23 March 2016 between 8.30am and 12 noon to:

  • staff the stall, handing out information about reading and booklists
  • set up or pack up stall

Please contact us at

National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature:
School Magazine Story Project

Was the School Magazine (formerly the NSW School Magazine) a part of your childhood? Or are you a teacher whose children currently receive it? You might be surprised to know that it is celebrating its centenary this year.
The Centre are inviting everyone for whom the School Magazine is, or was, a part of their childhood reading, to send us a few words about what the Magazine means or meant to them. We want to hear from young people who are current readers. But we want to hear too from people who read it, perhaps, up to 70 or more years ago.

Stories must be sent to the Centre by
15 April 2016.
See the flyer for more information about the School Magazine Story Project. Please share this flyer with anyone who has read the magazine and invite them to participate in the project.

Reading Australia
Reading Australia has over 100 Primary and Secondary English teacher resources mapped to the Australian curriculum. They have three new videos to help English teachers use the resources: a general introduction to the website, a video for Primary teachers and a video for Secondary teachers
