President’s Report September 2022
Hello everyone,
It was with a heavy heart that I shared news of the death of Life Member Rosemary Thomas. She was a great contributor to not only our Branch but also the National Board, the National Awards process and NCACL. In her final months she donated some significant items to NCACL and indeed asked that donations be made to NCACL in lieu of flowers at her funeral. Go to ncacl.org.au to do this.
This sad event was then followed by the passing of the Queen. I was in Adelaide at the time and went to Government House there to sign a condolence book. Some of you might remember a hilarious small picture book by Tohby Riddle titled The Royal Guest (1993) about the Queen coming to visit and to save on costs a Mrs Jones from Padstow offers to have her stay at her place. She has plenty of room. It is so funny and a clever concept. A moment of joy in remembrance.
The Winners have been announced and our event at the National Library went smoothly, thanks to those Committee members without whom these things not be possible. It was great to see so many of our local member book creatives in attendance too. The presentations by the students were varied, informative and entertaining.
Julie Long
