District Director Update January 2022 

Hello fellow Toastmasters, 

New Year
Happy new year to you, and I hope you took my humble advice and disconnected yourself from your computers and even Toastmasters. My inbox was very quiet, and I thank you for a well-earned break. However, my energy levels have returned.
 

I'm reminded of the following, "Reset, re-adjust, re-start, re-focus, as many times as you need to."

Welcome Back
This month's newsletter is a welcome back to our family of Toastmasters and future Toastmasters. 

My fellow trio members have some great messages in their sections, and if I can add a couple of pointers, we will move forward with pace. First, James mentions our meeting with District 72. It pleases me to see what you can do when you pool your potential resources at the club level. 

Are you challenged with finding contest functionaries, judges, and test speakers? Try your neighbouring clubs as I'm sure they will be pleased. If you don't ask, you will never know.

We don’t quit
Wendy touches on the District Conference to be held this year in Taupo. We would like to see a bumper attendance as it has been far too long since we last met, as a District, in person. My mission is to deliver the Taupo conference with in-person contests.

Other Districts have changed to online conferences this year. 

The following quote reflects my thoughts.

"It's not over when you lose. It's over when you quit." We, as a District, have not quit.
 

Messages from Toastmasters International 
Our International President Margaret Page reminded us in her message to deliver quality club meetings and to be an uplifting and caring community. The future will involve hybrid, online and in-person meetings, and contrary to some thoughts, we have experienced around one million virtual meetings. We have years of know-how and an opportunity to utilise this experience to grow our club meeting experience. She also said, "The way forward is not the way back."

Matt Kinsey, the International President-elect, said, "We will accomplish more by doing less." In other words, concentrate your efforts, and live a balanced life.

Great Advice
Finally, the following is advice I intend to practice as much as possible:

"Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble," Frank Tyger.

Welcome back, enjoy your New Year, New You experience and embrace the new norm.

Be like a tree. Stay grounded. Connect with your roots. Turn over a new leaf. Bend before you break. Enjoy your unique natural beauty. Keep growing.

Greetings Toastmasters, welcome to 2022. I hope you had a nice break and have enjoyed the glorious summer.

Goal Setting
New Year is a great time to review your purpose and set goals for the year. New year, a New You! Toastmasters International, every January, publishes articles on goal setting strategies which I always find inspiring. January 2022 article link - Connecting the Dots From Goals to Purpose.

Have you set your goals yet? What do you want to achieve at your Toastmaster club/s this year?

Are you working towards your Triple Crown Pin (three completed pathway project levels) or your DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster Award – two paths, officer role, district officer, mentor/coach, club sponsor/speechcraft/youth leadership and DTM project – see DTM criteria) or are you considering an officer role in 2022?

Whatever your goals are for this year, look at Pathway projects you could complete to achieve your goals, plus earn educational awards for you and your club.

Goal Setting Template
Looking for a template to help you set your goals? The member goal sheet is downloadable from the D112 website. (Go to officer page, expand the Vice President Education section, click on the link Member Goal Sheet, download as PDF).

Then book a time to discuss with your Vice President of Education what help you might need this year and even what help you can give back to other members in your club or other clubs.

Club Officer Training Round Two Update

✔️ 35 clubs have received a Distinguished Club Program (DCP) goal – well done.

✖️127 clubs who have not had four officers (or more) attend yet. 

Four sessions of round two are left for this Toastmaster year. Please see the details in the table below of the workshop topics, times and registration links. The training is open to all members and not just club officers. 

Reminder – officers with multiple officer roles must attend one COT, including an officer breakout session and one more officer breakout session (only). Some exceptions email me if you have a question.

Club Officer Training – Round Two – February 2022

The sessions are conducted as separate workshops so that you can pick and choose days and times based on your availability. Please register in advance for the date or dates you will be attending.

Please arrive at least ten minutes before the start of the workshop. Our zoom team will monitor the zoom waiting room.

Contest Time

District Conference – Taupo 6-8 May 2022 Erupt Your Potential

Fewer than five months to go now to the Conference, and we have a stimulating programme for you to enjoy – check out the Conference pages on the District 112 website.

Register to win
I hope you have registered already or will do so in the next few weeks. To encourage you to register, we have two draws for $100 of petrol vouchers—sponsored by Sharrp Kitchens Ltd.—the first on 28 February and the second on 31 March. All you have to do to be in the draw is register and pay before these dates. 

Virtual Banner Parade
This year, we plan to have a virtual banner parade.  We will celebrate the clubs with a photographic montage on a large screen at the Opening Ceremony and periodically throughout the Conference. This is where we need your help.

Can all Clubs please take a photograph of their members with their banner? 

NB. Permission of individuals for this photo to be screened will be deemed to be given by inclusion in the photo. If a person does not want their picture to be screened, they should not appear in the photo.

The photos can then be sent to me at  wbtravels2003@yahoo.co.uk - identifying the Club name and Area.

I would appreciate it if all photos could be sent before 31 March 2022 to be organised well in advance of the Conference. 

We would also like pictures of the Division and Area Directors, with names and designations.

Sponsorships
Lastly, if anyone knows of any businesses, corporate clubs or individuals who would be willing to provide sponsorship - pens, speaker gifts, speaker accommodation, spot prizes, and the dinner and dance, etc. Sponsors’ names will be displayed throughout the Conference. Attendees come from all over the North Island and some from the South Island, so there would be an excellent opportunity for exposure to a wide audience. Expressions of interest can be sent to me.
