The 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) comes to Glasgow - add your events to our 'Green Britain' tag to join the sustainable fringe programme
SEC, Glasgow / Image: SEC
Hello Culture Diary friends,
In November 2020, the UK will be hosting the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow at the SEC. This follows the Chile / Madrid co-hosted event taking place this December.

This is a huge opportunity for the UK to showcase our role as a world leader in tackling climate change and we are expecting around 30,000 delegates and 190 heads of state.

The COP26 team want to use this platform to engage the public and businesses around climate change. We’re keen to hear what events and activities cultural organisations have planned around climate change in 2020 so that we can coordinate and involve you in our plans. Upload your events (confirmed or pencilled) to the Culture Diary and tag them in the major event Green Britain 2020.

Brent 2020, London Borough of Culture leads a musical odyssey
RISE, opening event for Brent, London Borough of Culture 2020 / Image: Southpaw Dance Company
With Waltham Forest London Borough of Culture 2019 coming to a close after 12 months of packed cultural programming and setting the bar high, the north east borough's finale is Forest Uprising on 13-15 December before its New Year's Eve celebrations. This free outdoor event centres around an illuminated tree-like installation, music and art, all exploring an alternative reality of the world for the next generation. Congratulations to Waltham Forest for making the most of their year!
Also making an impact this year, Wirral, Borough of Culture 2019 for Liverpool City Region picked up where Imagine Wirral left off in 2018. From arts and poetry festivals to an exhibition of Roald Dahl illustrator Quentin Blake's work, and celebrations of Wirral's shipbuilding heritage, this extension of the great work begun by Imagine Wirral has put the borough firmly on the map.
Brent is the next London Borough of Culture, for 2020. As to be expected from the home of Wembley Arena, the borough's diverse cultural makeup, rich reggae heritage, and Kilburn's 'Music Mile', the 2020 celebration will be enriched with sound and song. It begins with its launch event on 18 January, RISE, a large-scale outdoor event with film, projection and a mass dance performance to an unforgettable soundtrack. The initial programme has been announced with plenty more to come.
