Warrambui 50th Anniversary Prayer Email

It was 50 years ago this year, that visionary young members of our NSW Lutheran church purchased 120 hectares of land, 45 kilometres from the centre of Canberra and began the history of what we have come to know as the Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre.

Please join me in prayer as we journey through this year of celebration and reflection. Prayers will be distributed on a fortnightly basis to year's end and I would encourage you to share these prayers with your community, family, friends and others.

Prayer No 11 - Prayer for Christian Unity

In this 50th year celebration in the founding of Warrambui we pray for the various Christian denominations that use Warrambui.  By making Warrambui available, the Lutheran Church of Australia (NSW District) contributes to fostering Christian unity amongst the churches of our nation.  The Ecumenical movement is more than just theological dialogue – it involves prayer, forgiveness, social action, friendship, cooperation and sharing. Jesus prayed that we may all be one, united in God in the mystery of the Trinity (John 17:21).  Christian unity is an imperative of the Gospel and the will of God.

Heavenly Father – We pray for the many Christian denominations that use Warrambui for their activities in the building of Your Kingdom.  We give You thanks for making Warrambui a welcoming place that fosters ecumenicalism.

Lord – it is your will that there be unity within the Church.

We ask - forgive us for the disunity of your Church and the resulting brokenness of Christ’s body.  Forgive us for the way we allow our words and deeds to destroy the message of the Gospel.  Forgive us when we reflect the attitudes and values of a world that has turned its back on its creator and not those of the kingdom of God.

Help us to think more of the Christ who unites, and far less of the systems which divide us.

Through the work of Holy Spirit - we ask for a renewed sense within the Christian Church of our being one in Christ and for a deeper sense of our belonging together and for a new joy in being the people of God together.

We pray for a new acceptance of each other’s worship and a new openness to share in each other’s praise, for a new willingness to listen to each other’s witness to the truth and for a new ability to break out of our prejudiced positions.

May the transforming love of Christ move us ever closer to Christian unity where our oneness in Christ brings glory to God.

In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
