Leveling the Playing Field for Women and Girls in Middle Tennessee Since 1913            April 2016
The Murfreesboro branch was well represented at April 9th's AAUW TN State Convention, celebrating the 90th anniversary of AAUW's Tennessee state chapter. During the convention, AAUW-TN President Ayne Cantrell awarded our branch with certificates for outstanding achievement in five categories: increased membership, hosting Start Smart workshops, hosting STEM opportunities for students, mission based programming, and contributing to the AAUW Fund. MTSU student Molly Blankenship was awarded the AAUW-TN scholarship to attend NCCWSL, and Murfreesboro's own Samantha Cantrell was elected to the office of AAUW-TN President! Way to go, Murfreesboro!

Don't miss April's big announcements!

At the April branch meeting, we will announce the slate of candidates to fill branch officer positions and distribute a draft of the new branch plan! Both of these items will be voted on during the May branch meeting.
Research alert! AAUW's new report, Barriers and Bias: The Status of Women in Leadership, examines the causes of women’s underrepresentation in leadership roles in business, politics, and education and suggests what we can do to change the status quo. You can read the report, watch videos and more here.

Bias is a hot topic. The Tennessee Economic Council on Women released a report last year entitled The Costs of Gender Bias in Tennessee's Workforce. Read TECW's report here.

Are you biased against women in leadership? You probably think you're free of bias, but the truth may surprise you. Take AAUW's test here to find out where you stand.
