Leveling the Playing Field for Women and Girls in Middle Tennessee Since 1913        November 2015
Branch members and guests had a good laugh during the AAUW-Murfreesboro history trivia quiz during the October branch meeting, "History in Action."
Don't forget to renew your membership—before it's too late!

AAUW National will purge the membership roster on November 30th. If you have not paid your dues for the 2015-2016 year, please contact Alicja Lanfear to do so as soon as possible. Alicja can be reached by email at Alicja.Lanfear@mtsu.edu or by phone at 615-556-5214.
Don't forget about our special programming at the
November Branch Meeting

Thursday, November 12
5:00-7:00 p.m.
MTSU Ingram Building Room 101
Dinner will be served for a $5 donation

Often office politics get in the way of getting things done. Join AAUW-Murfreesboro to hear Dr. Debra Fish, psychologist, discuss what some of those dynamics are and what are some tried and true strategies to getting results by working together.

Donations of laundry detergent for the Domestic Violence Shelter will be collected.

Dr. Fish has a deep interest in the factors that enable women to become strong leaders. Her significant psychological experience provides insights into sensitive defenses, unseen motivations and unexpected factors that drive people’s behavior. Dr. Fish honed her consulting approach during 17 years of working with individuals, teams and entire organizations to maximize performance. Dr. Fish founded the Fish Executive Leadership Group in 2011.

Women in STEM
AAUW-Murfreesboro congratulates MTSU for the ADVANCE Project

The ADVANCE Project seeks to study the status of women faculty in STEM disciplines. The project leadership team includes:  Dr. Brad Bartel, University Provost, serving as PI; and, Co-PIs are Drs. Wandi Ding, Jackie Eller, Judith Iriarte-Gross, Karen Petersen and Gretchen Webber. Preliminary findings from the ADVANCE campus climate survey are being presented this week. The next presentation will be this Thursday, November 12 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tom Jackson Building at MTSU.

The 2010 study conducted by AAUW, Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, provides a national overview to the issue. Other reports conducted by AAUW that examine the structural impediments to professional women in the workforce include The Simple Truth and Graduating to the Pay Gap. Both studies examine the pay gap, the first focuses on the pervasive nature of the gap and the second takes a look at the realities that recent women college graduates face in contrast to white male counterparts.
