Leveling the Playing Field for Women and Girls in Middle Tennessee Since 1913        October 2015
Dr. Mary Magada-Ward and Dia Cirillo, branch president, enjoy a wonderful evening at our first ever "Busking at the Boulevard" Open House in September. We raised $233 for the AAUW Fund. Thank you for coming out and supporting AAUW's nation wide programming. If you missed it, don't fret—we'll see you at the next open house!
October Branch Meeting:
History in Action

Branch members, student affiliates and guests are invited to join us at our October branch meeting.

Thursday, October 15
5:00 PM-7:00 PM
MTSU Sam Ingram Bldg, Room 101
2269 Middle Tennessee Blvd
Murfreesboro, TN 37130

The theme for October is "History in Action." During the meeting, we will learn a little about AAUW-Murfreesboro's rich history of advocacy for women and girls in education and the workplace. We will then have an opportunity to choose a committee to serve on for the rest of the year to make the AAUW difference. See below for all the choices.

How much do you know about the history of the Murfreesboro branch? Gear up for a short trivia session during dinner!

Dinner will be served for a $5 donation.

This is the perfect meeting to bring a guest to learn about what AAUW does. We hope to see you there!

A Role for Every Member

Join an AAUW-Murfreesboro Committee!

As part of our October Branch Meeting, we will launch our standing committees. These committees are the perfect opportunity for you to get "hands-on" with AAUW's mission.

Tap into your unique strengths and interests. Which committee might you like to serve on? Here are just some of the projects our committees will undertake this year:
  • Membership: Recruit new members and help members find a place in the branch
  • Public Policy: Talk with your elected officials about Equal Pay
  • GOTV: Help AAUW Get Out the Vote through voter registration drives
  • Development: Coordinate branch fundraisers
  • Special Fundraising: Work with the coordinators of the new fundraiser coming this spring, "Songs for Scholarships"
  • Communications: Outreach through social media; write for the branch newsletter
  • Finance: Create new reports on branch fundraising and income
  • Ad Hoc Committee on STEM Programs: Help create recommendations for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs for next year's branch Strategic Plan
  • Executive: Coordinate 2016 strategic planning process
How will you make the AAUW difference?
We are pleased to announce that AAUW-Murfreesboro fully staffed the "Packet Pickup" event for the Murfreesboro Half Marathon! Our branch will receive a $3000 donation for our volunteer work, which will help us fund our Ruth Houston Memorial Scholarship.

A heatfelt "thank-you" goes out to all our Packet Pickup volunteers, who included branch members, friends, family, and members of the AAUW MTSU student organization. Rain or shine, AAUW can be counted on to do our partand we had a lot of fun, to boot!

Strategies for Working Together
A "sneak-peek" at our November programming

Our November branch meeting will feature special guest presenter Dr. Debra M. Fish of Fish Leadership. Dr. Fish will speak to our group about "Strategies for Working Together." Dr. Fish established the Fish Executive Leadership group in 2011 and has a deep interest in the factors that enable women to become strong leaders.
