Student Story
Silvana Starts Her Future

Silvana has been studying English at LVGH for almost a year now. After moving to the U.S. from Brazil, she knew she needed to improve her English and heard about our classes from a friend. “I really want to be fluent in English.” Silvana says. “I like the service of the people there. I like the space. I hope through the classes I reach my goal.”

While Silvana works hard towards becoming fluent, she says her time here has helped her so much already. “I'm improving my communication with people, losing the fear of speaking, and improving my vocabulary. I'm more confident and happy every day.”

Join us at Hog River Brewing for Literacy on Tap

It’s been a long pandemic, and we’re all thirsty for some conversation and camaraderie! Please join us on Thursday, March 24^th, 5- 7 PM at Hog River Brewing Company, located at 1429 Park Street, Hartford.

Registration is $20, and includes one drink (beer, wine, cider or soda), appetizers and participation in a literacy-themed trivia game. We’ll have some terrific literacy-inspired prizes and a raffle, too! All proceeds benefit Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford and the students we serve.

Student Successes

We've had so much to celebrate this past month at LVGH! From left to right, we've seen Gloria pass her civics test to earn her U.S. citizenship, and Career Pathways students Chellay and Raymond passed their ServSafe tests to become certified Food Handlers. We're so proud of all of these students for their achievements!
