Student Story
Chamicka Challenges Herself at LVGH
Chamicka has been taking Basic Literacy classes here at LVGH for over three years now, and she has no plans to slow down! “As long as I keep learning more, I’ll keep coming here,” Chamicka tells us.

She first found LVGH by doing a quick search online for adult literacy classes in our area. Chamicka is an avid reader, but she knew she wanted to advance her education and expand her vocabulary. “I love to read. Now, I read even more and challenge myself with my book choices,” Chamicka says. “LVGH classes have helped my confidence and my ability to express myself with different words and sayings. It’s taught me to never give up on myself.”

She’s also made great friends out of some of the staff and tutors she’s met here. “Everyone is so understanding. Everyone is willing to help you read and write, or whatever you need.” We’re very glad to have met Chamicka, too!

Planned Giving
Become an LVGH Legacy Member
Our work to change lives through literacy is made possible through the generosity of our supporters. Recently, we sat down with former LVGH Executive Director Carol “CJ” Hauss and asked why she chose to join our Legacy Society by making a planned gift to LVGH in her will. Here’s her reply:

Thank you, CJ, for your continued commitment to Literacy, and the Greater Hartford community.

Did you know gifts from non-cash assets provide you with the best strategy to support LVGH and save on taxes at the same time? Please visit our website or contact your financial advisor for additional information. For details on LVGH’s Planned Giving programs, contact Development Officer Diane Klingman.

Student Successes
Two of our most-loved extracurricular classes are back after a short break and better than ever. The Food Service Job Training Program (left) is up and running in East Hartford, cooking and serving meals to the community twice a week.
Plus, Friday's Computer Club (right) is back in session, where students are learning to use the internet, create an email account, and more!
