Interview with a Teacher

In this edition we talk to Alberto Valcarcel, who takes the place of Pedro Diaz as he takes leave to embark upon a Master's program at the Royal Conservatiore. Alberto is also from La Palma, Canary Islands and recently completed his own Masters degree in Tilburg. We warmly welcome Alberto, and wish Pedro well  - Sacapuntas!!!!

What brought you to The Netherlands?

Classical Guitar Studies with Marlon Titre, at the Fonty's Academy of Music and the Performing Arts in Tilburg.

What do you miss most about home?

Sun, the weather.

What is one highlight from your career so far?

Winning a Scholarship from the Mapfre Fundacion for achieving the highest qualification across the Canary Islands. This allowed me to continue my studies abroad.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to play video games whenever I can find the time.

Do you have any practice tips or advice for students?

Please play slowly and correctly!

What is your favourite piece of music? Why?

Chaccone in d minor by J.S. Bach

If you could learn an instrument you don’t already play, what would it be?

What has been your biggest revelation / inspirational teaching moment as a teacher or pupil?

My best moment as a student was realising the developmental process in my music school. I initially didn´t really know what I was doing there, and a few years after, came to understand this is where music became a lifestyle.

Alberto playing Claude Debussy's Claire de la Lune from Suite Bergamasque
