They are planning to be operating in the Durham area this autumn.
We have had this for 20 years and it is now finished, I am surprised that it lasted as long, it was not designed for the work that we have been using it for: working on grass not pebbles and rocks.
You can see it has had some use! The runners on the sides are reversible.
It originally had blades, which I replaced which chains because of of the impact on solid objects. The chains would only last for a couple of days. I bought it to mow grass on enherbed vineyards: grass sown down the row rotated with one ploughed.
One of the few vineyards we still worked this way, with my new plough can plough close to the vines missing the grass.
At that time we had all of vineyards enherbed, I have let that go but plan to start again. It builds up organic matter and improves biodiversity.
The mower is also useful for reducing weeds before you plough, which stops the plough from being blocked.
It was bought from a supplier of agricultural machinery that imports from Italy, I cannot remember the price but another producer in our village recently bought one1,800 euros. He told us that if you wanted a French one it would cost another 800 euros, I was prepared to try that because of the amount of time I have spent repairing it having one that was more robust, so less welding of steel on the parts that have contact with the ground.
Going through the local dealers I would have had to wait 5 weeks, the factory would have to make it and were going to be on holiday for two weeks and the price was a lot more than 800 euros extra going over 3,000.
Then another local producer told us they had bought one from a small manufacturer just 10 miles away at Castillon du Gard.
Is about half way to the Pont du Gard from us very attractive worth a visit: house prices are very high there.
The owner was a fair age and still very active he said that he had sold 80 of the type I bought this year.
It was not easy getting it out of our van, there were only centimeters to spare in all directions.
It cost 1,400 euros!
You had the choice of blades or chains, I went for chains, the ones I used to use were not of the same dimensions as these and there is steel welded in the last link to strength it.
This is land which is not planted at Font du Clos because of the High Environmental Value we are now enrolled in I am not allowed to plough it or use herbicide so I need the mower.
There is a height adjustment on it but when it is closer to the ground there is a greater risk of damage catching rocks or pebbles but you can go faster, if you have it higher you have to work at a slower pace.
We have applied to plant this, you need permission to plant vineyards in France, we are quite hopeful of getting permission because the surface area of planted vineyards in France is falling.
We plan to have regular offers on our app if you are interested you should allow push notifications to be informed and open an account and leave it open. Requires: name, email and password.
