Haggerty Museum of Art to Feature Neighborhood Art Curation,
Under Construction
Near West Side Partners is excited to announce the Haggerty Museum of Art's commissioning of Chicago-based artist Kirsten Leenaars to develop a public art project titled Under Construction

This project will explore the relationship between happiness, home ownership and public policy through a residency, which began this fall.  It will include an exhibition planned for fall 2016, developed through a communal creative process with the Avenues West and Merrill Park neighborhoods. Leenaars is in the very early stages of her research into the cultural and political history of these neighborhoods, and is interested in connecting with local organizations, community activists and residents representing a range of ages and experiences to start to collect their stories. She will be based directly in the community and create a web archive to document the project as it takes shape. The project will culminate with a piece of video art that uses communal stories as the basis for a fictional screenplay screened in fall 2016, with neighborhood residents and stakeholders as actors.

If you are interested in meeting with Leenaars during her investigative phase, please contact
