Wow. We are 450 strong!

The industry is shifting and collectively looking to a sustainable future - and that is made obvious by the more than 450 companies that have joined us since June. Thank you for your commitment to use travel to change the world.

Our first signatory conversations.

Last month, Coalition founders organized a conversation with more than 60 signatories, partners and supporting travel companies around goals, challenges and their vision for the future of tourism. Here are our top 3 takeaways:

1. We need to go beyond radical collaboration to radical change and regeneration, radical thinking and doing.

2. Holistic e
ducation for the industry and for the consumer side is vital in where we are right now. The value shift needs to happen so we can collectively engage the full breadth of industry to embrace sustainability.

3. "Any society that can do well by its most disadvantaged and marginalized people can do most anything else too. This is at all levels of society and destinations and the industry. If this group can address that, we can do anything."

Let's keep this conversation going!

Each month, we will gather information on some of the work our signatories are doing around a Guiding Principle. This month, we've partnered with Travel Unity to assess how people across the global travel industry see diversity, equity and inclusion.

What's coming up.

In the news:

  • Six of the 40 Global Shakers are in our midst! Special congratulations to Coalition founders Paloma, Paula, Albert, Jeremy, Jonathan & Randy on being named among the top 40 Leaders in Travel.
  • "With this long pause, should we as travelers, industry leaders of the tourism industry, and governments be quick to jump on the bandwagon of travel?" That's the question The Dope asked as we look to regenerative tourism in a post-pandemic world.
  • Catch Flights Not Covid: In this episode, Paula Vlamings discusses the impact of the last year, silver linings, safety and setting an example for a more respectful and mindful travel industry.

Guiding Principles

Each month, we will take a deeper dive into our Guiding Principles “in an effort to continue sharing further thoughts and resources . This issue we’re spotlighting Guiding Principle #3. We invite you to join the conversation on social media by posting what your company or destination is doing to embody this principle using the #FutureofTourism hashtag.

The footnotes: Without holistic management that includes equal participation and representation from the private and public sector in the decision making process, difficulties can easily arise, and have - overtourism, neighborhood disruption, cultural degradation, exclusion, exploitation, and various environmental problems. Well-managed tourism can enrich communities, improve public education, help sustain natural habitats, and revitalize elements of cultural heritage. Learn More
