We invite you to join us at the Future of Tourism Coalition's first-ever in-person event on 29 September 2022 at the iconic Technopolis City of Athens, Greece. This event looks forward to providing a remarkable opportunity for uniting destinations, communities, and the travel industry toward climate resilience and climate action. Further, this landmark event will focus on destinations' central role in accomplishing the Glasgow Declaration for Climate Action in Tourism goals. Through this event, we will explore how to make positive progress towards hitting Net Zero targets through decisive and collaborative action at the destination level.

Green Destination 2022 and Future of Tourism Summit in Athens


The integration of the Future of Tourism Summit 2022 with Green Destinations' annual flagship conference, Green Destinations 2022, will provide a unique setting for stakeholders to discuss ways toward a responsible future for tourism. Hosted by the City of Athens, the conference will take place from 26 to 29 September, followed by authentic field trip options on 30 September and 1 October 2022. The occasion will connect sustainability professionals, destinations, and tourism boards through good practices to support peer-to-peer learning and discover initiatives, practical tools, and solutions for sustainable tourism destinations.

Our new "Future of Tourism is NOW" initiative

The Future of Tourism Coalition is launching a monthly storytelling initiative to share new ideas, inspiring case studies, and support radical collaboration. Every month, the Future of Tourism Coalition will highlight inspiring stories that bring our shared vision for tourism to life. This is your chance to be heard and recognised and to show the world how the Future of Tourism is happening NOW! We look forward to taking each of our 13 guiding principles by turn and bringing together the best stories we can find from within our Future of Tourism Community and broader networks and knowledge banks. 


The first submissions for stories should ideally adhere to Guiding Principle #1 “See the whole picture” - to recognize that most tourism by its nature involves the destination as a whole, not only industry businesses, but also its ecosystems, natural resources, cultural assets and traditions, communities, aesthetics, and built infrastructure.
