Advocacy Alert: By-Right Housing Bill

CPF is monitoring a budget trailer bill introduced by Governor Brown ("Streamlining Affordable Housing Approvals") that would make certain multi-family housing projects 'by-right." Approval would be ministerial if these projects meet specific criteria.

CPF contacted legislators, committee chairs and senior staff in the Governor’s office to exempt historic resources from the bill. The bill was amended to include exemptions for buildings listed on the National Register and California Register, but it did not include other historic resources, such as those designated at the local level. CPF is continuing to monitor this issue and will update you as the bill progresses through the legislature.
