Chapman University’s Digital Media Arts Center, a historic building transformed into a unique teaching space, has been named a recipient of a 2016 California Preservation Foundation award. The prestigious awards are given each year by the foundation to recognize California’s top examples of design excellence and historic preservation. Learn more.

SAN FRANCISCO


Beloved bar applies for Legacy Status to save location

Doc's Clock, a beloved dive bar in the Mission District of San Francisco, has a lease set to expire within a year. The owner, Carey Suckow, is fighting back by applying for legacy business status to help save the space, which was opened as a bar in 1951. The legacy business program is a new initiative by the city's Historical Preservation Committee.

Obama Emphasizes Importance of Innovation of Climate and Conservation

President Obama spoke at the 20th Anniversary of the Annual Lake Tahoe Summit about the importance of partnerships and innovation in tackling our shared climate and conservation challenges today. Learn more.
 

KERN COUNTY

 

Tejon Tribe Awarded by National Park Service Heritage Grant

The National Park Service announced that $531,187 in grant money is being awarded from its Historic Preservation Fund. Of that amount, the Tejon Indian Tribe is in line for $36,369. The only other California tribe on the list is the Karuk Tribe in the Klamath area. Read more here.

California Humanities is hosting a screening and discussion of Route 66 from a female Californian perspective, showing a diverse set of women's experiences along Route 66 in a wider historical women's and media studies context.

Mansions to Condos of South Orange Grove Blvd -
Sept 11th

This fall, Pasadena Heritage will revisit and expand the tour of South Orange Grove Blvd, focusing on the section north of California Blvd. The tour traces the evolution of the neighborhood from contemporary condos to the mansions and mid-century apartments that influences their architecture. Register.
