December has been a wonderful ‘Time Out’ in Zimbabwe. Visiting with friends and family is a great gift. This month we share the newsletter of our children and our children’s children; Chris and Deborah Maas, Gabriel, Ashira and Mikayla. Surely God has kept every promise He has made us. He has given us the place on which our foot has trodden; not only through our natural children and their children, but through a vast family of spiritual children and their children. This is the reward of a long life serving Jesus in the place He appointed us.
"You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children's children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have." ~ Gen 45:10
"So Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children's forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.' " ~ Jos 14:9
Thank you for standing with us through this year. Your support and prayers make great things possible. As we enter 2023, we are believing for our greatest harvest ever as it is multiplied through the vision and passion for Christ through the faithful Afrika Wa Yesu team and you our friends whom we call family.
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
Rod & Ellie and all at Afrika Wa Yesu.
"But when the fullness of time came,
God sent forth His Son,
born of a woman, born under the Law." ~ Galatians 4:4
'The fullness of time' is a beautiful moment - that point where things begin to make sense - where you can look back and see God's hand working in all the big and small events and occasions for His glory and your preservation.
Looking back on 2022, we are impressed yet again by God's faithfulness and wisdom in every single area of our lives. We are so grateful He has provided our every need, given us you - our prayer partners and supporters, sustained our family in incredible ways and brought the works of our hands to succeed. Blessings abound in all directions. Thank you, Father God.
Our 2022 Electrics Class - August to December
This was a lovely group of students with two ladies joining in - they were very receptive and quick learners
Their practical project was to install all the electrics - lighting and plugs - in the new staff houses which last term's vocational centre construction students had built on campus. They did a great job!
Graduation was a great success and the students full of animated energy, ready to see their families again and get started on the business opportunities now open to them. We look forward to visiting them in the field and seeing them impact their churches and communities
Can't Stop ✦ Won't Stop
Northern Leaders Conference: While the vocational students were housed at the bottom of the campus, the top half of the campus was used to host various conferences. We had a regional conference for our key Northern leaders and pastors with the theme of 'Putting God's House in Order'. We launched the new church oversight board for our region, anointing the members with oil and presenting them to the pastors and leaders. Having this team will facilitate visits to outer regions where it's harder to get to - our immediate leadership team can't go everywhere, but with this filtration system we can make sure that everyone feels seen and valued.
Pre-Adolescents Conference: As a ministry, we have been moved this year to focus on the often-left out pre-teen age group. They are the 9-15 year olds who are trying to find their place, and so open and hungry to receive the touch of God on their lives. The conference at Nacala started with a three days of leadership training for 20 leaders from Afrika wa Yesu churches as well as other churches in Nacala city area. With support from our Base team and Youth Ministry Team, they were prepared to receive 40 pre-teens from various churches for an encounter with God. Over the three days of camp, they had craft and sport activities, speaking events and beach time. Many of them were baptised in the Holy Spirit during praise and worship.
Youth/Young Adults Conference: 70 young people from Afrika wa Yesu churches as well as other local churches attended on the Nacala Base. The Holy Spirit moved powerfully throughout the conference, there were salvations and baptism in the Holy Spirit. 10 youth were water baptised on the beach. The conference ended with an evangelistic gospel campaign being held in the city where 5 people gave their lives to Jesus. We've received reports of people attending church in different churches in town as a result of this campaign - Glory to God! It was an impactful and transformative time with the youth of the region.
Muzuane Kids Club Graduation
The Muzuane Kids Club celebrated the preparation of 19 children for Grade One mainstream schooling in 2023. Raquel and her team did an incredible job of putting together a lovely program for the children, they were so sweet singing their songs and reciting various passages of scripture. This was followed by a lunch with all the parents and children. Each child received a graduation present of school supplies to start them off in the new year, and three children received progress prizes of a backpack, school uniform and school supplies, to encourage them in their studies. We've also enrolled more scholarship students for the coming year.
Conference Centre Coming Along
The floor of the conference centre has been thrown and we are busy using the hydraform machine to make interlocking blocks to begin putting the walls up in the new year. During our leader's conference, we took time to dedicate the construction and enjoyed the fact that the next conference we have will be in this marvellous space! Thank you for being a part of making this incredible development evolve.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No... it's 2023!
Can you see it? It's nearly here! Rapidly approaching at a rate of knots! The new year holds so much for each of us - we pray you have a blessed Christmas season celebrating Jesus and step into the new that God has for you with joy and expectation. Currently we are in Zimbabwe enjoying friends and family we've not seen in far too long, it's so good to reconnect. Soon we will be back with our hands to the plow and will keep you updated as we go - thank you for all your love and support.
