Learner Profile: Meet Branden
March of Dimes Canada: LIFE Mississauga

Branden is a 22-year-old learner at March of Dimes Canada: LIFE Mississauga (Learning Independence for Future Empowerment). He joined the LIFE program in June 2018. As profiled in the July newsletter, the LIFE program focuses on building independent living skills for adults with intellectual and physical disabilities.
The LIFE program has given Branden many learning tools both inside and outside the classroom. He particularly enjoyed the transit training. As a key element of the LIFE program, transit training helps learners get acquainted with Mississauga city buses. Implementing this training, Branden travelled to the park for a picnic with his fellow learners giving him a chance to socialize and have fun in the community.
Branden took the Money Matters course in June and excelled. He was engaged by the discussion questions, and found the TD Volunteer Tutors to be very helpful. After taking the course, Branden took what he learned and decided to open a savings account.
When he’s not in class at March of Dimes, Branden likes to keep busy with some of his hobbies. A native of Mississauga, he loves interacting with people in his community. He also enjoys watching his favourite TV shows, is a big fan of pro wrestling and enjoys all kinds of music.

Employers: Celebrate Essential Skills Day this fall with free skills training

This includes training on employability skills or “soft skills,” which we offer through our UP Skills for Work program. Money Matters for Newcomers and New Canadians now Available in Simplified Chinese

The first Money Matters for Newcomers and New Canadians workshop using the new Simplified Chinese workbooks was delivered in July to an enthusiastic group of seniors at ASSIST Community Services Centre in Edmonton.
“The Simplified Chinese workbooks were so helpful,” said Workshop Lead Cindy Chen, “it allowed the group to fully absorb new information about credit cards, TFSAs, and RESPs. Some learners mentioned that they intended to set up a RESP gift for their grandchildren. We even had a few people stay afterwards to ask the TD Bank Group Volunteer Facilitator more questions.”
