Before School Checks

Take advantage of the free B4 School Check (as your child turns 4) and prepare them for a healthy start to school.

The B4 School Check aims to make sure your four year old is healthy and can start school all ready to keep learning! Ideally your child should be seen as close to 4 years as possible.
It is also the final Well Child/Tamariki Ora Health Check and is free for all 4 year olds.

There are 3 parts to the B4 School check:

1 - Vision & Hearing Screen
This is normally done at your child’s preschool by a visiting Vision & Hearing Technician.
2 - Health Check
This is done with you and your child by a B4 School Check trained Registered Nurse and takes about 30-45 minutes to complete and includes the following:

  • Completion of a questionnaire on your child’s general health, their strengths and difficulties and their development.

  • Your child’s height and weight will be measured, Immunisation history reviewed and
    teeth and gums checked.

  • The Nurse will discuss with you your child’s health, readiness for school and any concerns that you might have.

3 - Early Childhood Centre
Your child’s preschool teacher completes a Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire – this helps us to understand your child’s peer and social development.
Your child’s B4 School check can be booked by phoning direct to our B4 School Admin Team
