The Greater Green Island Informer

April 2016

Introducing The Greater Green Island Informer

Our newsletter will be published on the first Tuesday of each month.  We look forward to being able to keep the Greater Green Island Community informed of all the exciting things that are happening in your community.

How To Have Your Notice Included

We need your help to make the newsletter informative and interesting.  Please send any articles or notices that you would like included in the newsletter to lyndad@psotago.org.nz

Greater Green Island Community Website

One of the initiatives that the Greater Green Island Community Network completed in 2014 was a directory of services and clubs that are available in the greater Green Island area.  This initiative was received extremely positively by many members of the community who had struggled to find information about the numerous activities that are available to them.

One of the downfalls of producing a print based directory is that the information that is published can go out of date quickly.  Because of this we are in the process of developing a Greater Green Island Website with Firebrand.

This website will be used to give residents of (and visitors to) the greater Green Island area a chance to see what is available to them in the area.  The benefits of the website will be that clubs/organisations and businesses that sign up will be able to update their own contact details as well as inform people of upcoming fund-raising and events, notices, add photos and videos and links to other external websites.

If you are interested in having your business or group showcased on this website please contact Lynda on 470 0814 or lyndad@psotago.org.nz

How about forming a Neighbourhood Support Group
in Your Street

We all want to live in a community that is more connected and caring. Neighbourhood Support provides neighbours with resources and tips on how to become more connected and build resilience and strength.

Neighbourhood Support Groups help to:

  • Encourage neighbours to talk to each other
  • Share information that will help reduce the risk and fear of crime
  • Help foster a sense of community spirit
  • Minimise burglaries and car crime in the local area
  • Decide on ways to handle any civil emergencies that may occur
  • Know when and how to contact Police, other emergency services or support agencies

There are also events during the year to support all things neighbourly!
