Hello all!  
Below you will find a list of event highlights coming up in the next two weeks. 
(Click the hyperlinks within each event description for more details.)

The library will be resume Sundays hours beginning Oct. 16 from 1-5pm. We look forward to seeing you all on Sundays this fall and winter! 

Please note: the library will be closed Monday, October 10 in observance of Columbus Day. 
BEGINNING  *tomorrow*  FRIDAY, OCT. 7, AT 4PM: PILATES SERIES WITH JUDY KRANZ
•••  The library will offer four free Pilates classes with local instructor Judy Kranz Fridays in October at 4pm. All levels welcome. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Participants must commit to all four sessions. Sign up at the library or call 508-693-3366. This series is free and open to ages 15 and up. Please wear comfortable clothing.
SATURDAY, OCT. 8, FROM 10:30AM-12:30PM: FAIRY / GNOME HOUSE BUILDING!
•••   The library will be offering its back garden as a haven for fairies/gnomes and their homes. Gather and bring your own natural building materials - bark, shells, seed pods, feathers, twigs, rocks, fur, pine cones, moss, lichen, small driftwood, etc. Plan on using and sharing your bounty to build a home for a fairy or gnome!
SATURDAY, OCT. 8 FROM 2:30-4:30PM: LEGO CLUB RESUMES
•••   The Library will once again be hosting its Lego Club for all ages. Various sizes of Legos will be provided to suit various age groups. Come with a friend or meet friends at the library! Build a monster! A castle! The city of your dreams! This event is free and open to the public. Ice cream will be served.
SUNDAY, OCT. 9 FROM 9AM-4PM: "SEW MUCH TIME" QUILTING RETREAT
•••   Come join the MV Modern Quilt Guild for “Sew Much Time,” a once-a-month, full day quilting retreat at the West Tisbury Library. Bring your sewing machine or your hand sewing and your projects. “Sew Much Time” is free and open to the public. Questions? Contact Katherine Long at mvquiltkat@gmail.com or 508-693-6065.
FRIDAY, OCT. 14 FROM 7-8:30PM: BODHI PATH PRESENTATION--WISE COMPASSION
•••   Bodhi Path of Martha's Vineyard will present a discussion with Lama Jampa Thaye at the West Tisbury Library. Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master trained in the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions of Buddhism, and has been training students in all aspects of the Buddhist path since 1988.
SATURDAY, OCT. 15 FROM 2:30-4:30PM: WOODEN FISH PAINTING!
•••   Join artist Julie Prazich and her partner Sara Rosenthal for an afternoon of fish painting. Basic materials will be provided (wooden fish, paints, and brushes). Feel free to bring any personal adornments you might want to include. This class is free and open to adults and children ages 9+.
SUNDAY, OCT. 16 AT 4PM: "THE SINGER'S LIFE" WITH MUSIC STREET MUSICIANS
•••  Music Street founder pianist Diane Katzenberg Braun will accompany dynamic Boston opera singers Bethany Worrell and Vincent Turregano in a wide ranging program, "The Singer’s Life: Exploring the Emotional Landscape." The musicians are graduates of the New England Conservatory with active recording and performing careers.
BEGINNING MONDAY, OCT. 17 AT 5:30PM: COMMUNITY YOGA WITH LISA VARNO
•••   The library will offer four free yoga classes with local instructor Lisa Varno this fall: Mondays 10/17, 10/24, 11/7, 11/14 at 5:30pm. All levels welcome. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Participants must commit to all four sessions. Sign up at the library or call 508-693-3366. This series is free and open to ages 15 and up.
MONDAY, OCT. 17, AT 7PM: WRITERS READ
•••   This monthly event features community members reading short original prose pieces. Both fiction and nonfiction readings are welcome. Each reader is allotted eight minutes to read. Critique to follow reading is optional. Free & open to the public. Sign up to read in advance by calling (508) 693-4307 or just come and listen! New writers are always welcome.
TUESDAY, OCT. 18 AT 5:30PM: GENRE FICTION BOOK GROUP
•••   Each meeting will be led by a different Island author, presenting a book that exemplifies their genre. This month’s pick is The Transmigration of Timothy Archer by sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick, presented by John Sundman. Call the library or stop by to request a copy of the book. Reading the book in advance is encouraged, but not required.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 19, AT 6:30PM: DEATH CAFÉ
•••   The West Tisbury Library will host the Island’s first Death Café, hosted by Cape Cod Death Café co-founder Heather Massey. This gathering will provide a comfortable atmosphere in which to share a respectful, thought-provoking, and life-affirming conversation on the topics of death, dying, and bereavement. Refreshments will be served. This meeting is free and open to all.

HELP SESSIONS WITH OUR IT/REFERENCE LIBRARIAN
West Tisbury librarian Rachel Rooney is now offering two weekly help sessions. Call ahead to make an appointment during her open hours (508-693-3366), or try your luck and drop in.

MONDAYS FROM 11AM-1PM: DISCOVER THE WORLD OF EBOOKS
••• Want to learn about ebooks, OverDrive, Axis360 or Zinio? Our IT/Reference Librarian will be on hand to help you discover the wonderful world of ebooks. Bring your laptop, iphone, kindle, or other mobile device. This event is free and open to the public.

FRIDAYS FROM 11AM-1PM: SOCIAL MEDIA FOR BEGINNERS

•••   Want to create a Facebook page? How about creating your own Instagram account or learning to “tweet?” Keep in touch with family and friends, access online groups, and learn to use social media for research and entertainment.  Bring your mobile device, smartphone, tablet, etc.

Sunday: closed Oct. 9. Sunday hours resume for the winter beginning Oct. 16: 1-5pm
