August is still in full swing at the library! Beat the heat: Step inside for some music, literature or film. Check out these events happening the last week in August:

TODAY! TUESDAY AUG. 23 AT 5PM: A READING WITH JENNIFER TSENG
•••   Join us for a festive evening of poetry and prose with former West Tisbury Librarian Jennifer Tseng! Jennifer will read from her latest work and will be joined by West Tisbury Poet Laureate, Emma Young. Refreshments will be served.
WEDNESDAY AUG. 24 AT 5PM: AUTHOR TALK WITH LYNDA LOIGMAN
•••   Debut novelist Lynda Cohen Loigman will read from her compelling new book, The Two-Family House: an engrossing family saga set in post-war Brooklyn focusing on two families that are inextricably linked by blood, marriage, and a long-held secret. Refreshments will be served.
THURSDAY AUG. 25 AT 5PM: AUTHOR TALK WITH MICHELLE CHALFOUN
•••   Come hear about a magical island adventure! Michelle Chalfoun will share her new children’s book, The Treasure of Maria Mamoun, a fish-out-of-water story about a city girl who finds unexpected adventure on a New England island. Refreshments will be served.
THURSDAY AUG. 25 AT 7PM: CLASSICAL CONCERT WITH DAVID RHODERICK & FRIENDS
•••   Pianist David Rhoderick will perform a classical concert, joined by César Atzíc Márquez and Olivia de Geofroy, both on violin. The program will include pieces by Dvořák, Wienaiwski and Vieuxtemps, with a special finale: Bach’s double violin concerto.
*off-site event*   SATURDAY AUG. 27  FROM 12 - 7PM: THE VINEYARD—VINCYFEST AT FEATHERSTONE
•••   Featherstone Center for the Arts will host a celebration of the historic relationship between St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Martha’s Vineyard. Festivities will include a carnival parade, art and fashion exhibits, a steel band, Garifuna and Wampanoag exhibits, traditional foods, boatbuilding activities, and more.
SATURDAY AUG. 27 AT 7PM: PIANO CONCERT BY DAVID STANWOOD
•••   Island pianist and piano tuner David Stanwood will give a twilight concert of his own piano music at the West Tisbury Library. The concert will feature “of the moment” free improvisations as well as improvisational compositions.  Expect some unrehearsed surprises!
MONDAY AUG. 29 AT 6:30PM: FAMILY AND TEEN MOVIE SCREENINGS
•••   It's the last week of Monday movie nights! We'll be showing the family movie Open Season: Scared Silly in the Community Room, and Avengers: Age of Ultron in the Young Adult Room. Popcorn will be served. 
TUESDAY AUG. 30 AT 5PM: AUTHOR TALK AND BOOK SIGNING WITH CYNTHIA RIGGS
•••   Martha’s Vineyard mystery writer Cynthia Riggs will discuss her new book, Bloodroot, published by Minotaur Books in May 2016. Bloodroot is the latest in Cynthia Riggs' longstanding Martha's Vineyard mystery series, filled with delightful characters and charming descriptions of the beautiful island. Refreshemnts will be served.
WEDNESDAY AUG. 31 AT 5PM: ROCK N ROLL FILM SCREENING HOSTED BY DAVE KISH
•••   West Tisbury Library and WMVY present “A Rock n Roll Evening” with Dave Kish, host of MVY Radio's "Sunday Morning & All That Jazz." In a departure from his usual monthly jazz-themed evenings, Dave will show the film A Band Called Death with a discussion to follow. Refreshments will be served.
ONGOING:
  • August Community Room exhibit: the work of Rob Hauck. September's featured artist will be Leslie Baker.
  • Summer Young Adult Room exhibit: The photography of Isabelle Crawford.
  • Mother Goose on the Loose storytime for ages 0-3: Mondays at 10:30am.
  • Drop-in help with ebooks and e-readers with WT Library IT/Reference Librarian Rachel Rooney: Mondays from 3-5pm.
  • Drop-in help with Apple devices with "Mac Pro" Paul Levy: Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am-Noon. The last help session will be Sept. 2. 
  • Weekly mindfulness meditation meetings: Tuesdays at 6pm (Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, as the library doors lock at 6.)
  • Pre-school storytime: Thursday mornings at 10:30am
  • Drop-in family crafts in the children's room: Saturdays from 10:30am-12:30pm.
  • MV Modern Quilt Guild meetings. Always open to new members. Check website for meeting dates.

Friday & Saturday: 10am - 5pm     |     Sunday CLOSED*


*We will resume Sunday hours mid-October.
