Welcome June! Summer is almost here, and the Vineyard is looking green. Looking for gardening inspiration? Our gardening section is brimming with beautiful, educational books on everything from aromatherapy gardens to worm composting. Need seeds? The MV Community Seed Library's seed cabinet on the library's lower level contains a variety of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds. Try growing some locally adapted plant varieties in your garden this summer, and save some seeds to return to the cabinet at the end of the season.

Did you know Martha's Vineyard library patrons get free access to Novelist Plus? Novelist is a comprehensive book recommendation resource for readers of all ages. Just visit, click on the name of your home library, and start browsing!

If you haven't tried out the CLAMS mobile app yet, you'll find it's an easy way to manage your library account, renew books, and request materials on the go. It takes no time to search for a title and place a hold. Before you know it, you'll be receiving an email to let you know your item is ready to be picked up. Stop in to the library with your device any time for help with the CLAMS app, Overdrive, or Axis 360.

Save the date: The West Tisbury Library Foundation and 88.7 FM WMVY present Amy Helm in concert on Sunday, July 24 at the Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs. The performance begins at 7:30. Tickets are available at the West Tisbury Library and at Net proceeds benefit the West Tisbury Library Foundation and Friends of MVY Radio. Join Julie Prazich to play at making your own original one-of-a-kind prints on Saturday, June 11 at 10:00am at the West Tisbury Library. Basic materials will be provided (paints, printing plates, printing paper, tools). Feel free to bring items from nature (leaves, ferns, flowers, even feathers if you find some). These will be used up in the process. This class is free and open to adults and teens ages 12+.
Our final disposition can have a lasting environmental impact, and yet few realize that their values in life can be reflected in the selection of after-death care or their "final footprint". Judith Lorei and Heather Massey will present "Green Burial and Natural Deathcare : Your Options, Choices & Rights" on Tuesday, June 14 from 6:30‐8:30pm at the West Tisbury Library. All are welcome to attend.

West Tisbury Library will host this month's meeting of “Islanders Read the Classics” on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:00pm. John Hough Jr. will speak about Bleak House by Charles Dickens. You are not required to read, or reread as the case may be, the month’s selection ahead of time if you want to attend, but for those who are interested, books can be ordered from any of the Island libraries.

Islanders Read the Classics hosts monthly speakers who have taught and have a passion for a specific literary work to give a talk on a book of their choosing. Each program will be held at a different Vineyard library. IRTC is sponsored by The Martha’s Vineyard Times, Islanders Write, and the Martha’s Vineyard Library Association. These talks on the classics are free and open to the public.

The art of Ruth Kirchmeier will be on display throughout the library during the month of June. Ms. Kirchmeier came to the Vineyard in 1988. For her, it was “the beginning of a new life.” It was then she found her artistic calling with her intricate and distinctive woodcuts.

On Saturday, June 11 from 4:00–5:00pm, the West Tisbury library will host a reception with the artist. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
