Next week, I will be helping to lead a virtual pastors’ retreat for Bethany Fellows. I know you at Good Shepherd are very familiar with and supportive of Bethany Fellows’ wonderful mentoring, spiritual, prayerful community of care for Disciples of Christ pastors in their first five years of their pastoral call. (For more information, please go to http://bethanyfellows.org/) I too am an alum of Bethany Fellows. I and the congregations I have served have been blessed with Bethany Fellows support. A year and half ago, I was asked to serve on the leadership team of Bethany Fellows as a mentor, after serving on their Board for several years. Next week, I will virtually gather with the Leadership Team and 40 or so newer pastors.
I will be joining them for all of the aspects of the retreat, as well as leading small group times and, during the day of silence, leading a full day of one-on-one spiritual mentoring appointments. This will be a volunteer working retreat for me. Each morning, I will join with the Leadership Team to review the day and pray for the fellows. Then we will coordinate the different leadership roles throughout the week.
I will also have some of my own time to pray in which I will be lifting up Good Shepherd Christian Church and all of you in my prayers. If you have a specific prayer request that I can be lifting during the week, please send it to me by this Sunday, the 27th (by phone, email, text, or the prayer request form on our website). I am happy to include your request during this time.
During the retreat (Monday-Friday), I will not be responding to non-emergency texts, emails, phone messages, etc. with the exception of attending our evening GSCC Elders Meeting. If you have a pastoral need, please contact Pastor Jill. Likewise, if you have a calendar, policy or coordination question, please contact Kaleena. Thank you for holding this sacred space for me and my leadership to the Bethany Fellows. It is a joy for me to serve the greater church in this way as your pastor and I thank you for your prayerful support of me and the fellows!
With a grateful spirit, Pastor Nina

World Communion Sunday
Do you bake bread, or enjoy a special bread or meal? World Communion Sunday will be celebrated on Sunday, October 4. We would love to have pictures emailed to the church office by Sunday, September 27, of bread or a meal. Pictures of you baking bread, bread on your table, or a special meal you enjoy to be used in a slide show during our worship service.
We would also like to widen our outreach of World Communion Sunday to the community! If you are able to bake small loaves of bread of any kind and wrap them individually, we would love to give them to our families that pick up food through our Welcome Table Ministry that afternoon. They can be dropped off at the church on Sunday, October 4 between 9 & 9:30 am or between 11 & 11:30 am. If you have any questions please contact the church office.
If you have a prayer request for the Pastors and/or to be held in prayer by members of our community, please fill out a Prayer Request form. You can also find the form on the homepage AND the "contact us" section of our website.
