Standing in our faith. That's our charge in these times. To stand in our faith. When we pass a lawn sign that makes our blood pressure rise, stand in our faith. When we hear relentless news coverage that makes our souls ache, stand in our faith. When we read social media posts or hear friends' comments that jar us, stand in our faith. When we hear the cries of the suffering, stand in our faith. When we cry out, stand in our faith. Be alert for God's call, rest, comfort, and strength.
I often go back to the pillar scriptures as part of my foundation. The two greatest commandments that Jesus lifts for us: "Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength"...AND..."Love your neighbor as yourself". (Mark 12:28-31; Matthew 22:34-40; and Luke 10:25-28). The book of James tells us we are to put our faith into action. Micah 6:8 answers "What does the Lord require of you?...but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God."
When the world's needs seem too great for any one of us to address (always, and especially now), we are reminded that "standing in our faith" means practicing our faith so it is strong and putting into action the particular unique gifts that God has brought to us. As we come together, as the Body of Christ, stronger in our different gifts and acting together to share the power of God's love, our world will transform.
This past Sunday, we looked at Peter's confession of faith. When Jesus asked "Who do you say I am?" Simon (Peter) responded "You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God!" Remember your confession of faith. Keep it strong by exercising it with many faith practices. Also heed the call to rest, heal, and believe. Trust in the Lord and stand strong in your faith, knowing Jesus promises "I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20).
Beloved, Love One Another, as You are Loved.
With the Spirit,

Special Announcement from Pastor Nina:
Church family, your church staff is with all of our families, learning what our children's virtual start of the 2020-2021 school year will mean for our schedules. We are adapting our work times slightly to address these needs, while also serving the loving and vibrant ministry of Good Shepherd Christian Church. Kaleena, Pastor Jill, and I are working closely together, and with our church leadership, to continue strong support. Yet, our schedules may need to adapt some as our children begin virtual learning. We will be in touch with you if we need to rearrange anything. For now, we continue to work safely from home and be prayerfully open to ministry in a new way. All of us in this pandemic time find our new way of being continuing to alter. We all will be in prayer, carrying both grace and dedication, to the service of our congregation's ministry in these unprecedented times. May we all find a sharing of joy, care, and Spirit as we live out these different days.
Hello GSCC! Did you know that from July 13 - August 17 we had a virtual VBS called "All God's Children"? VBS was very different this year, and it was lovely. Videos were posted each week with songs, a bible story, craft instruction, information about a country in Southeast Asia, and a world religion. Additionally, children who registered were able to pick up an activity bag each week at the church with fun supplies. Many thanks to those who made it all happen! Adriana Albrecht, Terry and Diane Bartlett, Sophia Belli, Kim Humphrey, Pastor Nina, and Pastor Jill all appeared in the videos. Jennifer Palagyi created the awesome activity bags, and Jennifer Zammikiel and Melissa Albrecht helped with support and ideas. In addition, the curriculum was provided FREE through our joint national mission partners, Common Global Ministries (a DOC/UCC partnership). We heard great things from the kids who participated and, all in all, it was a wonderful experience and we are so grateful to the VBS team and for the prayerful support of GSCC on our VBS journey!

Updated GSCC Building Policies and Procedures
(for use during the coronavirus pandemic)
Hello GSCC family & friends! The Administrative Team and church leadership have passed new policies and procedures regarding church building and property use during the pandemic. These policies and procedures are to be used by ALL people using and/or entering the church building and property. Please click the link below to view these policies and procedures.
It is important to note that there is now a health screening survey that must be filled out when entering the building. The link for this survey is at the bottom of the policies and procedures document. As of Wednesday, August 26, 2020, ALLpeople entering the building will have to fill out a survey based on the instructions in the document. It is also important to note that ALL people entering or leaving the church should do so through the front doors ONLY. There will be no entering or exiting the building by the back door of the church (with the exception of the Welcome Table staff and volunteers to take waste to the dumpster. The Welcome Table staff and volunteers should NOT use the back door for initial entry or final exit). This is to keep accountability and to discourage walking through the building before you are able to take your temperature and/or fill out the health screening survey. On the entry table, inside the front doors of the church, should be a thermometer and masks (for those that forgot their own mask). There will also be a hand sanitizer stand and dispenser next to the entry table to sanitize your hands upon entry. There is now a key lock box mounted next to the front doors of the building. If you do not have a key and need to enter the building, please contact Pastor Nina, Pastor Jill, or the church office for the code to the key lock box.
For your convenience a QR code will be posted on the front door of the church. For smartphone users: Before you enter, please use your smartphone camera and hover it over the QR code. Your camera should read the code automatically and redirect you to the procedures and policies document. Once this happens, please read the policies and procedures and then proceed to the health screening survey link to fill out the health screening form. For those without smartphones or are having difficulty with using the QR code: Paper copies of the policies and procedures, as well as the health survey, will be left right inside the front door of the church on the entry table. Please read the policies and procedures document, fill out a paper survey, and place it in the folder that is labeled "Completed Health Screening Surveys", also on the entry table.
If you have any questions and/or concerns please contact the church office.
Welcome Table Food Ministry
Due to the 2019 Novel Coronavirus pandemic we have temporarily changed the format of our Community Meal program on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. We now distribute dinners through a drive-thru format, placing bagged meals directly into the guest's trunk so we protect our guests and volunteers through social distancing. Please be respectful and adhere to social-distancing policies while using this service. We will also have bags of shelf-stable food available for pick-up at GSCC on Wednesdays from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm. Please email us here or here for assistance.
**The Welcome Table Ministry is prayerfully asking for egg carton donations. If you happen to have any empty egg cartons hanging around please consider donating them. You can drop them off at the church on Wednesdays between 11:30 am - 12 pm or on community meal days starting at 3 pm. There will be a bin for the egg cartons just inside the front doors or under the entry table.**
