Letter from Outgoing TKMA President - Diane Perry
It has been such a pleasure to be president of this awesome organization for the last five years! Experiencing the growth and engagement of the board, staff and members; as well as, the increase of sponsorships and community partners, has been heart-warming to observe. We have definitely enhanced the mission of TKMA through these efforts! Each Tucson Folk Festival has continually broadened its scope, and each festival season's events have been creative and fun! This is all due to our members, community support and commitment and the talent of our board of directors, staff and volunteers.
This Fall, and possibly Winter, I will be staying with my daughter and family in Minneapolis, to help out with childcare, as this will be their new home; moving from Brooklyn, NY, the end of this month. I am stepping down from the TKMA Board of Directors this month, as I wish to be more focused on family and know I will not be able to commit the time necessary to serve on the board.
Matt Rolland is going to be a FABULOUS President for TKMA. From the moment he accepted a board position with TKMA a few years ago, I knew he'd be a perfect fit for this role in the future. And, the future is now! Matt has all of the leadership qualities, talent and abilities to meet the new challenges of presenting a fresh, new concept of the Tucson Folk Festival. Matt's non-profit organizational experience, love of music and respect for fellow musicians and the Tucson community, will guide this organization to a new chapter for TKMA!
The 2020-21 TKMA Board of Directors are a DYNAMITE group of folks bringing experience and new approaches to governing TKMA. Won't it be exciting to see what new collaborations arise from their leadership! Be sure to give them your support whenever you are able! TKMA Volunteers and the Tucson community are the best support and resource this organization has!
Be Well, Be Safe and Thank You All for Your Friendships and Support!
With Much Love and Appreciation,
Play On . . . Oh, Live Acoustic Musicians . . . Play On! Your music, and the Tucson Folk Festival, are a GIFT to us all!
Welcome from New TKMA President - Matt Rolland
It is an honor to start the 2021 Tucson Folk Festival season as the new Board President for Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association. When I moved to Tucson in the mid-2000s, the Tucson Folk Festival was the first of many festivals that opened my eyes to the totally unique nature of the Tucson community. The Tucson Folk Festival, like the surrounding community and city, is a diverse and inspiring place where people share their creativity enthusiastically and listen earnestly. Over the years, I've returned year-after-year to participate at the festival as a performer, volunteer, and board member. The festival is an event I look forward to every year, both to perform and listen, and was a major part of my band's (Run Boy Run) growth from a local band, to a regional and nationally touring act. I'll forever feel grateful to our Tucson home audience for the guidance, cheers, and enthusiasm we met in those early years as young musicians. We too were once young artists performing on the Young Artist stage at Tucson Folk Festival!
We have been so lucky to have the leadership of Diane Perry as our Board President these last five years. She gave TKMA a steady course, helped the festival grow, and strengthened our community ties. We are a stronger board and non-profit because of her experience and enthusiasm for the Tucson music scene and folk music. She will be missed as she moves out of state to be with her family, but we know she will be listening, watching, and applauding from afar! We wish you all the best, Diane, and thank you for all that you've done for this organization and festival.
I look forward to continuing to contribute to the Festival in my new role as President. This will be a unique year as we navigate the uncertain challenges of a global pandemic, but we are committed to continuing to present and promote the best in acoustic and folk music, locally and nationally, and also online. We are all learning new ways to share and enjoy music together and I see the 36th Annual Tucson Folk Festival as a weekend to look forward to, no matter what form it takes in 2021.

Tucson Folk Festival - April 9-11, 2021
Produced by the Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association
The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association (TKMA) began as a group of friends gathering regularly on Friday nights for potlucks and jammin’ in the kitchen. TKMA has grown into an all-volunteer operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1986; Tax ID #86-0514808. Our mission is to further public awareness and interest in acoustic music and other folk arts by promoting and producing the annual Tucson Folk Festival; one of the oldest FREE Folk/Americana music festivals in the country!
