Everybody Enjoyin' Good Ole Summertime in Tucson?
(Don't Ya Just LOVE the Monsoons!)
LET'S GET TO THE ANNOUNCEMENTS!
NEW DATE FOR
2019 TUCSON FOLK FESTIVAL
APRIL 6-7, 2019
The Festival has always been
the first weekend in May!
After gathering input from the Tucson community through our 2018 post-festival surveys, conducting a Brainstorming Session with interested TKMA staff and community members, and reviewing all 2019 events occuring in the Tucson community, the TKMA Board believed April 6-7, 2019 to be the best option!
Better Volunteer Support
College Students finals occur first weekend in May
"Snowbirds" have already left by first weekend in May
Better Weather (usually)
It was just plain TOO HOT this last festival and a handful of volunteers
became overheated - Performers were too hot!
What the heck . . . we ALL were too hot!
We're actually quite excited as we have already begun our planning
around this new date! Stay tuned!
2019 TUCSON FOLK FESTIVAL will remain in our amazing
Historic Downtown Tucson!
The festival footprint will be pretty much the same, only the main festival grounds
will take place in Jacome Plaza and surrounding areas. (El Presidio Park is no longer available for festivals).
Festival layout is being fine-tuned by our 2019 TFF Planning Committee, headed by Greg Aiken. We will have five stages - Jacome Plaza (2 stages), La Cocina, Presidio Museum
and the fifth stage yet to be confirmed.
So . . . watch for opportunities to be a part of our events and activities all through this new festival season! You might not always be able to make it to a monthly meeting, or commit to volunteering regularly. However, you can show small actions of support by becoming a TKMA member or Festival Sponsor and/or attend our events throughout the year, including our main event . . . the Annual Tucson Folk Festival!
Isn't there just the greatest energy associated with new possibilities?
TKMA ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Don't ya just LOVE it when there's a buzz of conversation and laughter in a room full of people? Well, the atmosphere was just that at our Annual Membership Meeting on July 16, 2018!
We reviewed highlights from the 2017-18 festival season and shared plans-to-date of the 2018-19 TKMA/Tucson Folk Festival Season!
We also elected our new TKMA Board of Directors for the 2018-19 Festival Season! We increased the number of board members to 13 (maximum)! Being a working board, and with the new changes we're implementing this new festival season, we felt the timing perfect.
Special Thanks to Ted Ramirez, 2019 Nominations Committee Chair, and his Committee for conducting this year's Board of Director Elections from the beginning application process to the elections at the meeting. Good job!
What fun it was to welcome and acknowledge past TKMA Presidents and Board members present, who devoted their energy, talents and time to ensuring the continuity of TKMA and the Tucson Folk Festival! A TKMA Past President's Advisory Board is being formed for this new festival season!
(NOTE: No August Board Meeting is scheduled, as a Board of Directors Retreat will be held in August. New officers will be elected by the new board at this Retreat.)
We especially would like to thank board members who have stepped down from the board earlier in the festival year, or at the Annual Membership Meeting. Anyone who has served on a board of directors, especially a working board, knows the significant amount of dedication, time and energy it takes. And, we thank them all from the bottom of our hearts for their service to TKMA and the Festival.
Thank You:Aspen Green, Tammy Maki and Linda Lou Reed
2018-19 TKMA BOARD OF DIRECTORS!
We are especially excited to hit-the-ground-running with this new board! A main intention in building our TKMA Board of Directors is to bring a diverse group of folks together reflecting an inclusive representation of our Tucson community! We'll be featuring our board members in future newsletters so you can get to know them, as well! We're on our way!

The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association (TKMA) began as a group of friends gathering regularly on Friday nights for potlucks and jammin’ in the kitchen. TKMA has grown into an all-volunteer operated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1986; Tax ID #86-0514808. Our mission is to further public awareness and interest in acoustic music and other folk arts by promoting and producing the annual Tucson Folk Festival; one of the oldest FREE folk music festivals in the country!
