Introducing Byron:
SA&FS's First Peer Internship Coordinator

"I am very excited about this position. I found myself experiencing a lot of confusion about the internship process, so I am excited to help clear up that confusion for other students who may be in the same position. I also felt quite intimidated by the number of units and I am looking forward to guiding students away from stress and towards happy completion of their units!"
-Byron Bolton

Thank you to the Sprouting SA&FS Capstone team (Shea and Byron are members!) who have worked to improve the SA&FS internship process (thank you!). These improvements include the establishment of a Peer Internship Coordinator, or PIC for short, as well as integrated adjustments to the internship requirement.

The PIC is a student position, where the aims of the PIC are to assist students in finding internships, aid students in the completion of their SA&FS internship requirement, and foster conversation and community around the internship requirement.

In an effort to provide a consistent and designated space for all things internships, Byron will be holding office hours each week:

PIC's Office & Office Hours for Spring Quarter 2016
Tuesdays 10:00am - 12:00pm
Thursdays 10:00am - 12:00pm
2326 Hart Hall

Part of Byron's role as the PIC is to hold Internship Meetings throughout each quarter. The goal of these meetings is to provide a space for reflection and to meet other SA&FS students by sharing internship experiences with one another. If you are completing an internship, you must attend one of the four meetings that Byron will offer. All Internship Meetings will be held in Byron's office. As an advising team, we are currently working to streamline communication between the PIC and you. Watch your email for information on Internship Meetings and updates on the PIC program.

If you have any questions regarding the internship process, would like help in finding an internship, or would like to get to know Byron a little better, you can stop by his office hours or email him at bgbolton@ucdavis.edu.

Byron's quote and PIC goals are courtesy of Sprouting SA&FS Capstone Team. Learn more about the PIC, Byron, and Sprouting SA&FS here

Art Exhibition:
Back-Breaking Justice
"California is the agricultural powerhouse of the U.S., yet too often, the stories of those who produce the nation’s food go untold. The purpose of this event is to highlight the stories of campesinas or women farmworkers in the state who participate in back-breaking work. Given the agricultural community of Davis, it becomes imperative to hear about and engage in discussing farmworkers’ realities, struggles, and lives. In addition, the event looks to uncover the plight of indigenous immigrant women farmworkers who are ever-present in the fields."
