Terre de Lin crop 2015 report

After mid-march sowing in good conditions, the spring weather was favorable to flax culture. There was no strong temperature variations. The growth was regular.

The flax are not too long around 85 to 90 cm but it will allow to maintain productivity of hackling for spinning mills. The pulling are scheduled for mid-July. We are not expecting an exceptional harvest in quantity but it should be in the average.

Concerning the quality, all is still to be done. We need correct conditions for retting.

Linen school

Terre de Lin launched learning training cycle for farmers above all the young ones.

The aim is :
  • to perpetuate good cultivation practices transmitted generation by generation
  • to create exchange between farmers to maintain passion of linen
  • To improve flax cultivation and transformation procedures 
The first session was in May 2015. It introduced :
  • Flax fiber quality and classification 
  • Analysis of the defaults of fiber due to mistake during cultivation


Terre de Lin launched a smartphone application for flax farmer. It helps them for variety choice, growth  and maturity following report.
This is the first smartphone apps for flax culture.


Terre de Lin and the french weaver Lemaitre Demeestere presented their common passion during italian decoration exhibition Proposte. A common brochure has been issued to link flax culture and fabrics using fibers from Terre de Lin.

Visit of Teisen Group

Japanese TEISEN group went to Terre de Lin in June to take pictures of linen flowers. TEISEN produces linen home textile products. Theirs products are sold in Japan in high quality re-sellers stores.
Pictures will be used to promote linen in Japan.

Milan universal exhibition

Terre de Lin provided flax straw, scutched flax and hackled flax sliver for the French pavilion. The exhibition lasts until 31 October 2015
