Winter is Coming but it's Time to Sparkle

Storm Angus left us with a rather soggy end to Autumn, so we do hope that you and your property weren't too badly affected. Most of October and November was absolutely beautiful, however, and we've got some of your seasonal photos in Autumn Gallery below.

This newsletter takes us up to Christmas, so we also have info on all the planned festivities too.

This lovely picture of the rhododendrons at Blackborough was taken in last week's brief snow flurry.

Kentisbeare Village Shop ... BREAKING NEWS!
After nearly 19 years of running the village shop and post office, we have finally decided to retire!  There has probably been much uncertainty in the village and many rumours, but at last, plans have been finalised.

We officially finish on January 5th 2017.  The shop will be shut on 06/01/17, re-opening on 07/01/17 in the capable hands of Lisa Bartlett and Rachel Vincent.

We have all enjoyed the past years (even Arkright!) and our family has grown in that time providing us with many able assistants – even Samuel at four years old likes to “help”!

We shall still be living in the house so you haven’t got rid of us yet! Sally will remain as Postmistress so that the post office can remain running as it is.

Many thanks to those of you that have supported us; we hope that you will continue to support Lisa and Rachel.

Kentisbeare is very lucky to still have a shop, so please do help to keep it that way.

(and not forgetting Malley the post office cat, and all of our other animals!)
They Did It!
Many local people were involved in 'Let's Do It', the fantastic and hilarious Tribute to Victoria Wood, back in October. We have so much talent in the parish both on-stage and behind the scenes. Many of the cast and crew will also be involved in the upcoming 'Scrooge, the Musical' (info on tickets below).

Progress towards Kentisbeare Village Hall improvements

The recent race night fundraiser raised a fantastic £1600 which will help to go towards the new windows and doors at the hall. The hall committee would like to thank everyone who attended the event and all those that helped out making it such great fun on the night.

The Parish Council is also pleased to have been awarded funds from the Town and Parish Fund to help with the installation and running costs of Broadband in Kentisbeare Village Hall.

The Village Hall Committee needs to raise tens of thousands of pounds to replace the doors and windows at the hall - see next article for info.
Update on our plans to replace the windows and doors at the hall.

Planning approval has been granted by Mid Devon District Council but they have stipulated we have to use anthracite grey as the external colour.  This increases the cost of the project.  We have provisionally raised £58,000 (awaiting a decision from Viridor Credits on our application for £30,000 from them).

It has also  been agreed we will replace the soffets, etc. at the same time, again it has to be in the anthracite grey.

We now only need another £17,200 which I am sure can be achieved with more grant applications and support from whole community.

Many thanks to everyone for their encouragement.
