Saturday, September 26th from 10 am - 2 pm  Blue River Soccer Association will be celebrating our Fall Community Day.  BRSA is turning 25 years old!  We will have many activities and fun things for your family to do as well as a great lunch!  There is no charge for any activities or lunch.  This is our way of saying Thank You for all you do to to make BRSA a great soccer club!  KidsBMV will be on site from 11am-2pm offering free child identification cards compliments of BRSA.  In honor of Youth Soccer Month, we will host a MYOB, make your own ball starting at 10am.  Indy Eleven and Indiana Soccer are also helping us celebrate that day.  Face painting, bounce house and many other games will be available for your enjoyment.  Please stop by to enjoy the fun at the soccer fields!
Meet the Board

Each week in the newsletter we will be introducing you to one of Blue River Soccer Association's Board of Directors.  This will help you get to know each of us.  Please don't hesitate to introduce yourself to us when you see us at the fields.
My name is Sirena Shouse.  I am the secretary for the Blue River Soccer Board of Directors.  I was appointed secretary in July 2015.  I am essentially the organizer of the group.  One goal I have is to build BRSA's presence in the community.  What do I love about BRSA?  I love that BRSA focuses on family.  In U4/6, sometimes a kid just isn't "feeling it" that day and needs to have a little extra parent time.  I love that the coaches are completely accepting and inviting parents to participate in games to really encourage children.  It's a team sport.  I have a daughter, 4 years old, who plays with BRSA.   In my free time, I enjoy painting.
Saturday, September 26th from 10 am - 2 pm BRSA will be hosting our Fall Community Day at the soccer fields.  We need volunteers to help with this great event.  We will be serving lunch and hosting games and activities.  If you would like to help for any amount of time, please contact Jana Dorsey, 317-512-0252.

Each week will review one of the Laws of the Game.  For a complete list of the laws, please review your BRSA Recreational Soccer Handbook or visit

LAW 15    Throw-in

A throw-in is taken to restart a game after the ball goes out of play over the touchline.  A throw-in is taken by a player from the team, which did not touch the ball last.  A player throwing the ball in must have both feet on the ground and both hands on the ball over his head.  Both feet must remain on or behind the touchline.  The thrower must throw the ball with equal strength from both hands from the back of the head and over the top of the head.  The thrower must not play the ball again until another player from either team has touched the ball.  A player cannot score a goal directly from a throw-in.  A player in the offside position receiving the ball directly from a throw-in is not offside.  The player may take up to 3 steps prior to the throw of the ball and dragging a foot on the ground is acceptable in the U10, U12 and U15 divisions.  Younger kids must throw the ball from a stationary position.

Coach Karen's
Tip of the Week

During practices, keep the players moving at all times.  Bored or disinterested players are hard to teach and coach.  Try to do this by making activities that fit all kids not just a few.  For example, relay races, dribble sprints or crab soccer are great activities.

Karen Spitler, Director of Coaches and Player Education

If you ordered soccer pictures, you should have received your order in the mail already.  If not, please contact Pro-Tek.   Remember, after you receive your initial order, you can order additional prints or specialty items online with your order number.  If you have questions, please contact Pro-Tek Photography directly at 317-888-4866 or 800-452-2749.

Weekly Parent Tip

Consider what you look like on the sideline during the game.  Kids sneak looks at their parents more than we realize, and body language speaks volumes.
