Social Update

TGIF Friday Suppers

These started today in the Patterson Bar, and run through the summer. Menu this week is a Pasta Buffet - includes lasagna, penne pasta with chicken, chicken parmesan, salads, garlic bread, and dessert. Cost is $15.00/person and meal service begins at 6:30pm! A great way to refuel after Friday evening practice, or plan to come for supper with your family and friends.

Rowing Open House Sundays

Sunday, June 11: 2-4PM
Sunday, June 19: 2-4PM Happy Father's Day! How about treating Dad to a free rowing trial?
Sunday, June 26: 2-4PM

Our Summer Student Coaches will be hosting three Open House Sundays in June. The intent of these days is to offer the general public access to check out the club and "Come and Try" rowing. It is also an extra opportunity for members to socialize, meet members from other programs, get out on the water, or maybe try a new boat or crew combination.
Cleaning / Decluttering

Speaking of the Open House, we need to clean up!

Our Summer Student Coaches will be tackling this project starting at 10AM on Sunday, June 12, prior to the first Open House. Additional volunteers are welcome to join the fun! The students' primary project will be the office. All items will be removed, the office cleaned and painted, and then only the items related to club programs will be placed back in the office.

IMPORTANT NOTE RE PERSONAL ITEMS ON SITE: Any personal items, other than rowing shells /oars or those stored in locker, must be removed from the boathouse prior to Sunday, June 12. Any remaining items not specifically related to club operations will be removed and donated to charity, or disposed of, on that date. Please contact Tracy to discuss any concerns with this request.

Our Summer Student Coaches, supported by some great volunteers, have been busy getting the word out in the community about our programs, and promoting the sport of rowing.

Activities completed to date include:
  • Hosted 28 students from the Halifax Independent School for a morning of rowing
  • Door-to-door Flyer Distribution to almost 1000 homes in proximity of the club
  • Open Dock Day
  • Direct conversations with Hockey, Soccer, and Swimming teams promoting rowing a cross-training for those sports
Plans in progress and/or coming soon:
  • Switch Dartmouth - June 5
  • Open House Sundays - June 12, 19, 26
  • School visits - Weeks of June 6 and 13
Check out our 2016 Flyer! Extras are available if you have opportunities to distribute them.

A huge thank you to those who have been extremely busy behind the scenes facilitating the registration process. A tremendous amount of effort goes on behind the scenes to make things smooth and easy for our members.

We are in the process of coordinating with MicMac AAC on upcoming registration dates and will advise once confirmed. Until then, anyone interested in programs can contact the club via email or phone.

NEW! Online payment for all programs is now available via the Rowing Canada Aviron website.

Referral Incentive

In our last newsletter, we announced an incentive program for members to refer family friends to register for an Adult or Junior Learn to Row program.

Thank you to everyone who accepted the challenge. There were 12 ballots in the draw, and the winner is: Léa Raiche, who recruited her husband, Edge Tanner, into the Adult Learn to Row program. Léa wins $100 in Gift Cards from Irving / Circle K, Atlantic Superstore, and Sobeys. Thanks to everyone for their support!

There is still room in most programs, so keep up the great work recruiting.

Support for the Junior Development Summer Camp Program is provided by Rowing Canada Aviron and Sport Nova Scotia.
