Thank You!

Mic Mac AAC Rowing is pleased to share that we have received a financial donation from the office of outgoing City Councillor Gloria McCluskey. The funds will be used towards the purchase of a heavyweight double scull, single scull, and/or sculling oars, to reflect the growth of this demographic in our club. A search for suitable equipment is underway by members of our Equipment Committee. The type, quantity, and grade of equipment purchased will depend on what can be sourced at the right price from the right location. Details will be shared once they are confirmed. The Committee is working towards having the equipment available for the Spring 2017 rowing season.

November 4, 7:00-8:30pm

Volunteers Needed

Like all community organizations, Mic Mac AAC Rowing operates primarily based on the generosity of its volunteers. While we are always open to any short term or long term contributions, volunteers are needed immediately for the following specific roles:

a) Club Representative for Patrick Convey Award Review Committee - must by available to review applications that have been received for this Row NS Award, and to meet between September 16-26. This is a great first opportunity for anyone interested in getting involved with rowing at the Provincial Level.

b) Boat Trailer Vehicle and Driver - seeking a vehicle suitable for pulling a boat trailer to regattas this fall, and a driver with experience driving with a trailer.

c) Mic Mac AAC Rowing Bookkeeper / Treasurer - seeking a volunteer with experience in this area who can track revenue and expenses, and reconcile club financial reports. This volunteer would provide monthly updates including a summary of financial highlights to the Steering Committee.

d) Signing Officer - cheques issued by Mic Mac AAC require two signatures. Rowing is seeking a volunteer who can act as a signing officer for the club. The ideal candidate is accessible on a regular basis in order to expedite invoice payments and expense reimbursements, and is familiar with or is interested in learning about the financial operations of the club.

e) Rowing Representative on Mic Mac AAC Board of Directors - seeking a volunteer to represent the rowing program at monthly Mic Mac AAC Board meetings

f) Organizing Committee Member for Beer Tasting Fundraiser, Friday, November 4, at 7PM - Garrison Brewing has been booked for this date and time. What a great way to celebrate the end of our fall rowing season! The club is seeking 1-2 volunteers to assist the Steering Committee with organizing and promoting this event.

g) Organizing Committee Member for Spring Wine Tasting and Silent Auction - date and location to be confined. The club is seeking 3-4 volunteers to assist with organizing and promoting this event. Past organizers are available and interested in sharing what has worked in the past, and open to ways to make this event even better!

To discuss these or any other volunteer opportunities, please contact: Siobhan Wiggans, Steering Committee Chairperson at: micmacaacrowing@gmail.com
Welcome Adelaide!

Mic Mac AAC Rowing is pleased to welcome Adelaide Wimpenny to the coaching staff for our fall programs. Adelaide has a full plate, including coaching the Master's Competitive, Adult Recreational, and Junior Programs. She began rowing as a student at St.Francis Xavier University. She started as a rower, then transitioned to the role of coxswain. Over the past summer, Adelaide made another switch - from coxwain to coach at the Antigonish Rowing Club and helping with the St.FX team. Still eager for more time on the water, she has recent related to the the city. She is excited to continue developing as a coach and contributing to the rowing community which has already given her so much is such a small amount of time.
National Coaches Week - September 17-25, 2016

National Coaches Week is a time to celebrate the tremendous positive impact coaches have on athletes and communities across Canada. This week is an opportunity to recognize coaches for the integral role they play by simply saying #ThanksCoach.

National Coaches week in Nova Scotia this year has a focus on promoting and developing female coaches. It is recognized that there are far fewer females coaching sport in Nova Scotia than males and the percentage of female versus male coaches remains low in comparison to female participation in sport.

On behalf of all of our program participants, thank you to coaches Alex, Carmen, Hannah, Kristen, Liam, Logan, and Nick for supporting our summer programs. Thank you Angela for stepping up to lead one of our programs this summer, and for continuing to be a leader in the fall. Thank you Adelaide for joining the team!

#ThanksCoach
:) Tracy Brown, Sport Director

Mic Mac AAC Rower Cody Bailey raced in the A Final of the Men's Double Sculls at the U23 World Championships August 26, 2016. Cody (bow seat), and his partner Trevor Jones, faced the best in their field from around the world at this regatta and placed 5th overall.

Congratulations Cody on a successful international racing debut. Mic Mac AAC is very proud of you, and looks forward to cheering you on at the National Rowing Championships in Burnaby September 22-25, 2016.

Winter Training

Winter Training programs run November 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. These programs are an excellent way to improve your fitness, build your rowing skills, and stay connected with the club during the winter. Details coming soon!

Mic Mac AAC was asked to share information on the following equipment for sale. The boat is not compatible with the equipment used by our club, but might be a great addition to someone's home or cottage on a lake for personal use.

Please contact the seller directly for more information.
