RAN at the Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Week in Nairobi, Kenya December 5-9, 2016

‘Translating Resilience Data into Innovations’
The Rockefeller Foundation’s Africa Regional Office organized and hosted The Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Week from the December 5th –9th 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya. In relation to RAN’s agenda, the event showcased and demonstrated the importance of resilience in enabling people, entities, and communities to survive, adapt, and thrive in the midst of shocks and stresses that face Africa today.

Continuing to learn from watching and sharing lessons learned from a Movie together

With the air flaring with the scent of warm salty popcorn and the soft drinks freshly chilled, the Makerere University School of Public Health ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) Eastern Africa Resilience Innovation Lab (EA RILab) opened its doors to the community on December 9th, 2016 for yet another Movie Night and discussion. Movie Nights have continued to be learning gatherings for multidisciplinary teams convened by the RAN team. Premiering this time was the riveting documentary, “Before the Flood” from Academy Award-winning Filmmaker Fisher Stevens and Academy Award-winning actor and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio.

Pitch Tuesday Sessions 

The Yo Mentor App 

The Yo Mentor App is a web and mobile phone based app that avails career guidance and mentors services to youth and young entrepreneurs overriding geographical, human interaction and access challenges.  With this app, the user will be able to search for expert mentors, consultants, careers, education information and other professionals and be matched with one at a place near him/her for a meeting. The team was very enthusiastic about signing up a number of mentors to support the ever growing number of young unemployed graduates. In their pitch, the team did not clearly state what other offerings they would propose to the mentors with exception of being uploaded onto their platform.
