SCHALK VAN HEERDEN:
"TIME TO TREK - DECOLONISING AFRIKANER LEADERSHIP"
at the Seattle Coffee Company, CRESTA Shopping Centre
Fri 28 Oct, 6:15am for 6:30am, ending 7:30am
Schalk van Heerden offers a Christian Afrikaner perspective and journey, deconstructing myths and exploring legitimate ways of leadership. Schalk explores ways of helping without harm, how Biko can help us, and some practical things he has found to do on the journey of "becoming African".
Schalk's ancestors have been in South Africa for ten generations (since 1701), and he is the 5th Schalk Willem van Heerden in a row. Born in the Free State, he mostly grew up on a farm in Zululand but also lived in Mozambique for 6 years. He studied Theology and later obtained Masters in Development Studies at UJ where he also lectured. Schalk started Youthzones and Foundation for a Safe South Africa with Roelf Meyer and Doctor Mabila. He is currently also working against rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park.
