January 2018 Newsletter
Happy New Year! Here's to new possibilities, continued work toward justice, and much joy and love. I hope the resources highlighted here prove useful and I look forward to being in touch throughout the coming year.
Of all the retrospectives on the year that was, this was my favorite. Enjoy!
There are many lanes on the racial justice freeway, many ways to contribute, each of which is essential. There are also important rules of the road that can keep us safe and avoiding causing delays. This essay provides a handy way to talk about how we can better support one another and be more successful on the journey.
Would you like to explore the topics covered in Living in the Tension through dialogue and exercises in community? A full curriculum guide is currently under construction. Sign up to receive updates and/or volunteer to be a reviewer and discuss possibilities of implementing a pilot of the series this spring. Full publication is anticipated for June 2018.

After many years, the publishers of Witnessing Whiteness have decided to create a professional audiobook version. I have been in touch with the narrator, and the new version will be available in mid-February. Hopefully this will support accessibility for those who have the desire to check out the info, but who haven't had the time to sit and read in the traditional way.

This is an online workshop series presented by White Awake, a ceremony and ancestral recovery for anti-racist action. It will be held Jan 28, Feb 4, Feb 11, and Feb 18 from 5-7pm ET / 2-4pm PT. Register now!
This is my new favorite group! The Center for Story-based Strategy (CSS) is a national movement-building organization dedicated to harnessing the power of narrative for social change. Check out their resources and tools!
This past month I was invited to a holiday party for a politically-active group. They played this game and I was blown away! It's a fantastic way to turn a social event into a learning opportunity. I left with a few new strategies for engagement that I hadn't even considered before, and it also includes some self-care items to ensure that we all stay healthy in the struggle. Very cool resource!
The 4-day summer Institute, Unmasking Whiteness, I co-produce and co-facilitate along with AWARE-LA is open for registration! The event is already half-filled after only one month, and the event is still 7 months away. Register ASAP if you plan to attend. I hope to see you in LA in July 2018!
This podcast marries the exploration of spirituality with social justice. Check out one of their recent episodes from November 29, 2017 called, Surrendering the White Ego with Abraham Lateiner and Margaret Johnson. "When We Stop Defending Our Egos, We Liberate Energy for Real Change."
