Summer camps at ACM are a great way to keep youth entertained and avoid the “summer slump” during the months while they’re out of school.

During the daily design challenge, campers will build a variety of vehicles including a pinewood derby car, solar car, balloon-powered car and an electric car. Through the design process, they will learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). They will apply these concepts again to other activities relating to the Museum’s exhibits and collection, during an in-depth tour over the course of the week.

Every day, in addition to outdoor playtime, campers will also spend time in the Speed Zone where they will build their skills on CXC Racing Simulators and a Pro-class Slot Car Track. These daily practices and team-building exercises are in preparation for a team race on the last day of camp. Campers will also meet several local race car drivers who will coach them on their driving skills as wells as showcase their personal vehicles and equipment and explain what makes them fast and safe on a real track.

ACM Volunteer of the Month
Heidi started volunteering at ACM and the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge where she works with the education departments to take students on tours. She says, “I love talking to young people and hopefully sparking an interest in the art and history of automobiles at the Museum and observation skills at both places. I also love to talk with them about potential careers and the possibilities that they have ahead as it relates to their interest cars, history, art, etc.” Read more about Heidi's love affair with the automobile.

FUEL FOR THOUGHT
Your Will: Peace of Mind Through Thoughtful Planning
Intestacy (in-TES-ta-see) may sound like a serious disease, a diagnosis you would dread hearing from your doctor. But it simply means dying without a valid will. Unfortunately, it can have long-lasting consequences that are just as harmful to your family. One of your more precious legal rights is the opportunity to dispose of property the way you want to. Surprisingly however, more than 55% or the adults in this country die intestate.

Why is it that many people will spend a lifetime working, accumulating an estate, and caring for family and loved ones and then leave the important matter of the distribution of their property up to state law—which may not be in accordance with their wishes? Perhaps procrastination, inability to face death, and lack of familiarity with intestacy laws are reasons why so many die without executing a will. While only you can deal with the first two reasons, we can explain the serious aftermath of intestacy.

To learn more about how we can assist you with meeting your philanthropic goals and how you can help sustain the mission of ACM, please contact Matt Taylor, our Director of Major and Planned Gifts at 253.683.3950 or by email.
