Dear Friends,

We hope you will join us this year as we celebrate our 110th anniversary as the leading non-profit in Boston supporting excellence in training and entrepreneurism in community service programming.

The Junior League of Boston invites you to our Gilded Gala at the historic Algonquin Club on Commonwealth Avenue. To be held Saturday February 27, 2016, the event will honor a few of our key supported programs, as well as two members with special accomplishments.

In May of 2016 we are so excited to invite you to the Decorator’s Show House at the Nathaniel Allen House in West Newton. This storied property was a stop on the Underground Railroad, is on the National Register of Historic Places, and was one of the first co-educational schools in the country. Owned by the Newton Cultural Alliance with nearly thirty member non-profits, the property will be a home for small and medium-format cultural events beginning in late 2016. The Junior League of Boston welcomes you to visit this special property and see the fascinating and unique visions of our designer partners.

Fund Development at the Junior League of Boston is our most vital endeavor. Without adequate funding, our impressive training curriculum and our 19 community service programs cannot thrive. Your support of the Junior League allows our 1,000 current members to achieve excellence in voluntarism and allows the girls served through our community programs to thrive and prosper as they grow to become the great leaders of Boston’s future.

With your help, we plan to make 2016 our best year ever as an organization. Join us as we continue to make service shine in greater Boston!

Warmly,

TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Expand Successful Community Programs

Pamela Lynch
President-Elect 2015-2016

We are very pleased to announce that JL Boston received a $24,700 grant from the TripAdvisor Charitable Foundation which is an exciting step as we look to significantly grow our community impact. The grant will enable us to scale up our Leader Within and JL Boston Arts headquarter programs over the next year.

JL Boston’s strategic initiatives include increasing external funding and extending neighborhood reach. This grant allows us to expand our impact by reaching more girls in need and making a more substantive impact to girls we already serve. Through this grant, JL Boston Arts at headquarters will distribute healthy food bags and recipes to girls’ families—addressing the “food desert” for impoverished families. Leader Within, a signature JL Boston program where girls develop their own leadership skills and give back to the community, will be replicated in another region of Boston to launch in January 2016.

As we move into 2016, the Junior League of Boston looks forward to welcoming you to any one of our exciting events. Mark your calendars and join us at the following events where you'll mix and mingle with the exceptional women who comprise our volunteer base. Proceeds go to support the Junior League of Boston Community Service Program and Training Fund.

2016 Decorator's Show House Returns for its 45th Year in May 2016

The Junior League of Boston is excited to announce that the 2016 Decorator's Show House will be the Nathaniel Allen House in Newton. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the property served as the earliest co-educational school in the country and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Owned by the Newton Cultural Alliance (NCA) since 2012, the property will support small and medium sized performances and cultural events. Nearly 30 non-profits, many supporting JL Boston’s focus of the wellness of girls, are members of the Newton Cultural Alliance. A large-scale renovation of the property by NCA is planned starting in the summer of 2016.

Tickets go on sale March 1 and all proceeds go exclusively to fund the Junior League of Boston's charitable mission.

The Junior League of Boston recently held its third annual Bachelor Auction at Bill's Bar. The event was right out of the 20s with ladies decked out in flapper themed beaded dresses, headbands, and red  lipstick. Thirteen brave bachelors strutted their stuff across the stage to be auctioned off to a sold out room of excited dolls. Additionally, four handsome men were part of the silent auction.

Dressed and styled by Lord and Taylor, the men looked dashing as they enticed the crowd into a frenzy of bidding. Two lively auctioneers--Frankie V and Ashlee from Jam’n 94.5 The Morning Show--talked up each bachelor and one bachelor even demonstrated his singing and guitar skills. As the finale Frankie V was even auctioned off to appease the excited crowd. The Bachelor to get the highest bid was Nasos Dousis, who sold for $1,200 and included a date for Dinner for 2 at Top of the Hub followed by a night at the symphony (which Nasos donated himself for his date package).

Tremendous thanks to all of the bachelors, bidders and event sponsors!

Leader Within Program Expands to Charlestown in 2016

Nearly 18 years ago the Junior League of Boston developed the Leader Within program, an experiential and academic group mentoring program for middle school girls designed to support  natural strengths through team building, writing, art-related projects, field trips, and community service. The curriculum develops leadership skills by helping girls identify and discuss issues relevant to their lives, and ultimately to take action in their communities by designing and implementing a community service project.
